I live in Rockport now but lived in downtown corpus. Port A rockport north beach is way better than Galveston

How did you like living downtown?

I've been on the south side but have been considering buying a place closer to downtown now that there seems to be a little more there (wasn't much there when I moved here in 2012)

My dad was from the Corpus Christi area - he’s around the same age as Farrah Fawcett

Don't step in a tarball on the beach. Or get run over by a truckload of beach goers driving their truck down the beach.

We stayed at Jamaica Beach south of Galveston several years ago and enjoyed it.

Throw in the Strand/Seawall/Moody Gardens of Galveston and there is a lot more to do for kids.

If it is strictly sitting on a beach and sipping adult beverages, Port A is clearly the leader over Galvatraz. You can drive on to the beach and take you some chairs and a cooler. Heaven. Might be a little riff raff so stay situational aware though. I don't know why the OP is even considering Corpus. That place is a dump. The only reason you go there is if you are trying to be a Navy/USMC pilot. Port A also has good food. It swings back the other way for the stuff you just mentioned. Plus hotels are nicer. I only fish in Port A. Actually stay there and drive to ULM and Baffin. We give 2 shites about anything else other than maybe Bernie's which is a thread by itself . In Galveston, I play golf at the Moody. It is bad arse.

Outside of the Lexington, Galveston probably has slightly more to do with kids. And for justing hanging out on the beach, I think you probably have more options for hotels and casual dining along the seawall. Corpus is a little more like a regular medium sized-city that just happens to be on the coast; there's not a ton of beachfront unless you drive/stay further out from the city.

As a 30 year old I loved it. I could bar hop all I wanted and not have to get in the truck. As a 37 year old not so much but I wouldn’t hate it. Just like to hop in my boat now and go fish without having to drive to the launch

That’s not true Corpus has a few water parks, baseball, and you are a couple hours from San Antonio, Austin and Houston. You have the best of all worlds in corpus.

I can be on the river walk in a hour and a half or dropping acid with the homeless in Austin in two hours plus way less crowded and way better water and beaches

Plus, the OG Whataburger.

Edit to add: glad there are a lot of mentions for Port Aransas. If you’re headed down there “now,” you may be able to get your eyes on some of the truly wild, migrating flock of Whopping Cranes.

Port O’Connor for an even quieter town on the water, with the Poco Loco being a nice place to stay, but that’s more of a fishing town I believe.
