Those Oak Point prices are silly. You can get a Caluadas or Party Place @ BetR for less though they dont ship "specialty" cakes to BR. Both beat the pants off of Calandros. and Oak Point IMO Sometimes Costco has Caulada traditional for art 14. Thats a deal.

Are these shipped in from Dong Phuong or made inhouse?

Had the Crème Brûlée king cake from Oakpoint Friday. Did not disappoint. Not what I would consider a traditional King cake, but was definitely good.

Agreed. I don't know where to get a simple, but delicious, king cake in Baton Rouge. I love cream cheese, but I would like just a traditional to have with some coffee. Or a filled king cake that doesn't have cream cheese with the filling.

Maybe Rouses? When I was a kid these things weren’t filled and only had dyed sugar on them as a topping. At least that’s how I remember them.

Maybe I was just eating cheap king cakes from Tastee donuts back then. Oh well, I didn’t know any better so I was never disappointed.

Calandros king cakes are giant cinnamon buns with butter cream icing. It is my favorite.

I've tried several of the Calandro's specialty king cakes over the past few years based on their descriptions and they've always underwhelmed...

They make garbage king cakes, Oak Point for the win, bourbon pecan

The absolute best king cake I have ever tried was in Baton Rouge. Unfortunately the person who makes them is a reclusive nice version of the Soup Nazi. I’m fact, I think my full experience would make a great Seinfeld episode. Rosch Bakehause king cakes are awesome!!! I managed to get one 3 years ago, when she had a pickup location downtown. The following year, I landed one with exhaustive efforts. Last year-no luck. I even mentioned to her that I would pay up front for all of king cake season to have a weekly cake reserved…she never replied. They are expensive and small, but the quality is worth it in my opinion.
