If so, how did you get it prescribed and did you use insurance to cover costs? There is a discount card for those with Type 2 Diabetes but for pure weight loss it can be thousands of dollars in cost. Any experience here?

My neighbor and a bunch of his buddies are all taking it. He’s lost about 60 lbs. He had a lot to lose. It’s a self administered shot if I’m not mistaken.

I work with several people who are taking it

For a few weeks there was a supply issue because so many People jumped on the bandwagon that most warehouses ran out of supply, for the time being it appears to be resolved . I felt bad for the actual diabetics who were using it as they had to do without until the supply was replenished

It has great results so far from my sample size I see . Everyone has been pleased as it definitely is curbing their appetite and cravings .

I will say, the big chains have cut back on their willingness to dispense mounjaro with the discount cards UNLESS you have an accompanying diabetes diagnosis . If you’re using it off label for weight loss, I doubt they fill it. Just an FYI.

Yes I’ve written it for lots of people.

But it seems the well as run dry around here. No pharmacies will fill it unless you use the diagnosis code for diabetes. We were using the coupon card and everyone could fill it for $25-50. But no more.

Develop diabetes.

No one will pay for it for insulin resistance, impaired fasting glucose, or obesity. The coupon card has been changed because it became so popular so fast.

Your insurance company doesn’t care about preventing diabetes or maintaining a healthy weight, or really your healthcare at all if it doesn’t save them a dime, so they probably aren’t going to pick it up for those indications for several years, unfortunately.

I’m happy people are losing weight because our health system could use it but damn. How about a little self control and exercise? What happens when they stop? Is it similar to eating through the sleeve?

People that lose a ton of weight are people that have a ton of weight to lose. It’s not for people wanting to lose 15 lbs. it’s for diabetics that need to lose 100 lbs or even more.

So yes, many thousands of people have successfully used it for weight loss. But it’s not for getting rid of those last stubborn pounds. It’s for moving from morbidly obese to overweight.

I’ve been on Ozempic for a few months. Was able to get it covered because I have insulin resistance due to PCOS and I wanted to lose weight and improve my A1C.

Just now seeing a shortage here. And my insurance is now saying I have to have a prior authorization from my dr to be able to continue having it covered by insurance. From what I’m reading in my ozempic fb groups….. this is happening more. Many insurance will only cover now for type 2 diabetes.

They also said the same for Mounjaro(strictly only covered for diabetes). New prescriptions for Wegovy also will not be filled at this time due to shortage.

Ozempic was $25 a month with my insurance….Wegovy would have been $1600 a month without. Even though it is basically the same medication

Tried for diabetes and had to stop. Gave me massive stomach cramps, diarrhea, and burps that smelt worse than the explosive diarrhea.

I am currently on Mounjaro and up to the 10MG dose. Have been for 6 months. I've lost 30lbs, slow and steady with exercise, diet change and the meds. These drugs are truly life changing for people struggling with issues that make it hard to lose weight like menopause/hormone imbalances, PCOS, thyroid. The $25 coupon party is over though but, some people are still having good luck if their insurance will cover. BCBSLA for me (ACA plan) does not cover unless type II and then it is only like $250 but, I don't qualify for that. Not sure what I will do going forward as I can't justify spending $1100 a month for it. However, in the future these products will hopefully be a great tool to combat the obesity epidemic in the US. They need to do something about insurance coverage and the retail price though to make it accessible. There are shortages in many regions especially for the 7.5. Not for the weak though side effects if you eat the wrong thing can be brutal - nausea, vomiting, constipation. The meds slow your stomach down so heavy, rich or carby foods sit in your stomach and don't digest for a long time. It also most likely will strongly discourage heavy alcohol use and cravings so I haven't had much fun lately.
