Patterson is a joke they haven’t been relevant in 30 years

30 years?!? The last tenish years I’ll give you but making multiple quarterfinal/semifinal/state championships in the 2000s/early 2010s is hardly not relevant

Just pulled up the Benton/Denham game on NFHS and watched the ending. On Benton’s 4th down you can hear the crowd counting down “5,4,3,2,1.” Ball snapped as they say “1” and then they kneel it (takes another couple secs) but the game isn’t over. Somebody really fricked something up there

1st round: highest seed hosts

2nd round:
Team that received first round bye automatically hosts
if two home teams win, highest seed hosts
If a road and home team win, road team hosts
If two road teams win, highest seed hosts

3rd:
(Teams with first round bye are treated as having had two home games)
Team that has traveled most hosts
If that’s tied the team that traveled most recent hosts
If both are tied higher seed hosts

Semifinal: higher seed hosts (I think)

They should change that rule to where if you play a “road” game in your parish or in one that borders your parish, it shouldn’t count as a road game for the purposes of determining home and away

Another idea. Brackets divide into 4 quadrants of 8 teams. You should NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES play on the road against a team 2 quadrants lower than yours. For example, a 1-8 seed should never have to play on the road against a team seeded 17 or lower. 9-16 should never play on the road against 25 or lower. Then do the rest by number of road games.

It’s gonna happen again next week. 4 seed North DeSoto has to go 4 hours to play the 28 seed in the quarterfinals. I’m sorry. That’s asinine and inexcusable on every level. Why bother winning games and getting a high seed? What’s your reward?

Take a business trip and get the job done. Dem Eagles drove 5 hours today.

I beat one of y’all’s distance runners in the two mile at regionals my senior year and then again the next week at state in the mile.

Got a small sense of revenge from that

On the radio it sounded like the coach wanted the ball snapped at 1 second but the offense snapped it a little early at 3-4 seconds instead.

Sounds like refs and Benton both screwed up. Also was an inadvertent whistle to back Benton up , stop the clock, and put DS in fg range. Not to take away from Denham who came back by recovering 2 and almost 3 onside kicks in the last few minutes. This game needs its own thread.

Inadvertent whistle should not back the offense up. Team in possession gets the choice of taking the results of the play (spot of the ball when the whistle is blown) or replay the down. No way the offense would choose taking the results of the play for a loss when they could reply the down and take more time off the clock. That's assuming the officials knew what they were doing. Back to my point that coaches need to know the rules better. It's their full time job. That's no excuse for the officials, especially round 2 of the playoffs.

Edit to insert not

Penalty was on the offense. (Holding, before the whistle) so shouldn’t the defense get to decide whether to take the result of the play or decline it

My understanding was the inadvertent whistle killed the play where the ball was, so that backed them up. Not sure if holding was tacked on but the whistle also stopped the clock so time was added back to the point of the inadvertent whistle.

Sounded like a pretty chaotic ending.

IW is ignored when there's an accepted penalty. So if there was offensive holding, and the defense accepts it, then it's as if the IW never happened, and replay down after enforcement. Bad thing is that defense can't decline the penalty and take the loss on the play.

Patterson gotta worry about Trey Holly before they can even think about playing Berwick.
