Anyone else observing more ducks than typical for this time of year? I assume extreme drought conditions north of us coupled with that polar cold front last week has more birds here than typical. At least from what I’ve seen during the last 2 weeks.

I’ve noticed more than normal amount of wood ducks in the False River area. I’m hoping Maurepas swamp wma will be loaded thanksgiving week, with ducks that is.

Yep, Arkansas is very dry. In other words, we're one big rain from most of them going back North right before the season starts.

Got a report this weekend that there a bunch at my buddy's lease. Likely do to the owner pumping water into the crawfish ponds he leases out.

No idea what typical is for that area but the marsh around Mobile was absolutely loaded with teal yesterday. Must have seen close to a thousand driving by.

Those pond heaters don't work real well when there's no water to heat.

New rumour - the ducks have figured out they can fly over. I'll believe it when I see it.

There is no water anywhere for ducks to spread out.

If you have a duck hole you can pump up with a well you may have a good year unless it starts raining

This is it. It's probably not that there are more ducks down (although that is a possibility), but more likely that, because of the dry conditions, there is no water for them to spread out. As a result, they are highly concentrated where there is water.

I went to a spot I've hunted the last few years on some public ground, and there was no water in it. Completely dry! So any ducks that would have used that (and there were alot of wood ducks usually) are now wherever there is water.

Catahoula dry as a bone. Which it usually is right now but Little Rive and old river are the lowest ive ever seen them. Went to brush blinds and didn't even see a single duck on duck lake or the goose reserve period. Lots of gators though. Also, word is they broke the Archie Control structure so idk if they can let water in from that way on Little River like they normally do in accordance with the diversion canal.

AlxTgr. Where do you hunt? ForLSU56 has been trying to find somewhere to hunt since he moved back to RP.

‘05 was similar plus hurricane-ruined marsh. We hunted big water and stacked ducks like cord wood, baw.
