Looking to travel from Baton Rouge to Arkansas right after Christmas with our 9 year old son. Thinking about going to Little Rock and Hot Springs. Any recommendations on where to stay and what to do?

I'm heading to Bentonville in mid January. Can't help with Little Rock and Hot Springs, but this might be of interest to you.

Our trip is largely based around me cycling in the morning, and us exploring other things and eating out from lunch through the evening.

Food wise:
Yeyo's
The Hive
The Preacher's Son
Tusk & Trotter
Crepes Paulette
The Meteor Cafe
Roll & Fold

Other day time plans:
Crystal Bridges Museum
Walmart museum
Blowing Springs park
Pinion Creek falls

What are you wanting to do?

I've lived in central Arkansas most of my life. I wouldn't recommend Little Rock to anyone, for anything really. Its Baton Rouge with more hills. Other than the zoo and an ok children's museum, it offers nothing that several other areas do not.

Hot springs can be a good time. Good to great food options, some cool history, and the national park area is beautiful. I would shoot for a cabin somewhere near there instead of a hotel/condo on the lake. Lake will be lowered until next year, and won't be much to look at.

NWA has more to do than both. It is cleaner and safer as well. If you want to go that route let me know and i'll give you more info.

The Museum of Discovery and Clinton Presidential Library in LR and the Mid-America Science museum in Hot Springs would be good for a kid that age.

Plenty of outdoor things to do in both areas. Downtown LR has a paved bike trail around the river and there's a bike rental place in the Rivermarket.

Hiking Pinnacle (20 minutes west of downtown) is a great hike.

Don't know what type of activities y'all are into, but Blanchard Springs Caverns is a pretty cool place to visit.

Think we narrowed it down to Hot Springs. Recommendations on what to do with our 9 year old son?
