I don't know, with young kids in a hot state and long summers it seems like a pretty solid way to go if you aren't about that neighborhood pool life.

When we bought I new one I bought one with a pool again.
My 7yo lives in it. Better than being inside on a Nintendo when it's 100 degrees outside.

Go salt water. It's easy. Only thing I add weekly is 4-6 cups of muriatic acid to keep PH in range
This. We had to treat ours as a chlorine pool for the first 30 days after it was completed and the plaster cured. From the first day we added salt it became easier to keep up with the pool. Constantly adding chlorine was a pain. Just a little acid every Friday now and other than running the Polaris a couple times a week it’s been maintenance free.

Jandy parts are very hard to get locally. I personally would not use any pool contractor using Jandy equipment. Extreme low end product. I would specify Pentair pool equipment a little more expensive but more durable and easier to get serviced

Chlorine is upwards of $10 a pound and rising daily due to closed plants and difficulty getting isocyanurates from China. Definitely go salt
Also I am adding a cyclonic water cleaner between the pump and filter which will reduce filter cleaning by 75%. Only problem is only Jacuzzi makes them now and others have to create a different design because of patents

Pros and cons to both. It comes down to personal preference

Put me on team salt. I never have to shock my pool. At most I have to add alittle CYA mid summer as I’ve diluted water from evap/refill.
As far as corrosion, I don’t have any. I’ve got a metal table sitting 10’ from my pool for the past 8 years and it doesn’t show any rust so IDK what is going on with these other folks pools.
I have the jandy truclear system, cleaning the cell is easy. A 5 gallon bucket with a little bit of water/Muratic acid mix and let it soak for a bit, then hose it off. I do that every 3-4 months.
I have a buddy that runs a pool cleaning service. He has around 100 pools. He said if they would all go salt his job would be simple. The chlorine pools for him are much harder to maintain, especially when he can only find liquid chlorine like has been the case most of this year. He won’t even allow a chlorine pool owner to do biweekly service since the pool will be green.
All that said, I have a buddy who had a chlorine pool with UV sanitizer installed two years ago and he says his is basically maintenance free also. So with modern systems you probably can’t go wrong either way

Team Salt here.
This summer I think I have added about a gallon of Muriatic Acid for the PH. About 2 bags of salt. A little bit of CYA and some Calcium increased. I do my own tests via the Pool Math App and a test kit. If I did it again I would not have added a heater. The summer makes the water almost lukewarm and the 1-2 months we actually use it just isn’t worth the cost to me. We also have a VSP pump and the heater is electric. We have not noticed much of an increase in our electricity usage and we run the pump roughly 9-10 hours a day. I would also add umbrella holes??? Around your deck so you can move them around for shade. We have a dolphin that runs daily and it is awesome.

I'm on my second pool. I prefer the modern chlorine over the salt. I really like the Hayward system with the app on your phone although it has given me a few issues ie: loss of communication to the internet more than I would like and it lost connection to the pump and it ran multiple days until it blew a relay. I still would buy another Hayward system. Biggest take away was my first pool I skipped getting a hot tub and hearer for costs and added a seperate stand alone hottub later. I much prefer the built in hottub and having the heating system. For an extra 15k I'd build in a hot tub. The kids play in it a ton and is worth every dollar spent.

bite the bullet and spend the extra 15k for a jacuzzi. well worth it.

The best way to keep using a pool is to design it with adult use in mind, not kid use. Your kids will grow up quick and then you are left with a pool built for toddlers that you don't use. Think about how you will use it. For example, my wife swims laps for exercise. My kids are grown but she uses the pool 4 times a week because it is long enough and sized for her to swim laps.

I 100% wish we had installed an In Floor Pool Cleaning System instead of relying on a Polaris.
The in-floor cleaner only does half of what a good pool robot would do. You have to clean AND scrub the pool. My robot handles both.

yep. my old pool consisted of me emptying the strainer basket EVERY SINGLE DAY (filled with spiders and sometimes mice, chipmunks and snakes) as well as skimming the pool.
I had to brush it and vacuum the bottom at least once a week and it took on average at least an hour.
My new pool has this:
That little fricker runs once a day (I could set it to run only 3x a week which I should probably do) and gets every speck of dirt and is entertaining when it comes crawling out of the water like JAWS and scares the hell out of friends we have over.
I do literally nothing except check the chemistry and empty those disgusting filters once every couple weeks. i haven't so much as used the net one time this summer or brushed the pool.
I will literally be on the phone ordering another one the same day it dies.

These things are worth every penny. I have one made by dolphin and the motor keeps going out. I've got a few months left on the warranty so I'm looking out for deals b/c I will need to replace mine before the warranty expires as it will eventually break. Except it won't be a free repair, it would cost $500 after the warranty
