Hello- Long time lurker, first time poster...

I have a fairly long driveway that has some "V" ditches along the sides in places. The ditches are mostly clay with rock at some parts in the bottom. I'm going to get some rip-rap to line the ditches for erosion control. I was also thinking about putting in a 4" drain line at the bottom of the ditch and covering it with the rip-rap. Would this be overkill or a good idea?

Thanks for any advice.

Do you have positive flow into a bigger ditch downstream? If so i don't think you need the pipe.

Depending on the size of the ditch, veg, soil type, etc., you may need put down some geotextile before placing the rip-rap so the rocks don't sink.

Does it all slope away towards a drain area/daylight?

This sounds like a 6in French drain all day and then you don’t need the exposed rock at all. Assuming you can excavate out the entire run.
