That’s not a martini, that’s a coffee drink without ice.
All these “martinis” (appletini, etc) are not martinis, they are mixed drinks without ice.
A martini is chilled gin or vodka, served with a vermouth washed glass and an onion or olive/splash of brine.
Take a screwdriver, vodka and OJ over ice. Remove the ice, serve in a martini glass, you got an orangetini.

Much prefer them made with actual espresso instead of coffee liqueur. So that limits you to places with an espresso machine. Also don’t like when any sort of cream or milk is added, even if it’s just Baileys. Drink should be dark brown.
I rarely order them because they’re like the mojito of todays world in that bartenders internally groan when someone orders it, but I seem to remember DiGiulios doing a traditional one. Ruth’s or Mansurs might. I think Gino’s has an espresso machine but they do theirs with baileys or milk or something.

Because people have just gotten used to calling the vodka cocktail a martini. Just like with an espresso martini. Just like you may call a California sparkling wine champagne. You can join the hoi polloi in such vulgar language and upend tradition if you'd like. I prefer to keep true to the standards that separate us from the animals.
