I had a dealer try to add that, list key replacement, special air in the tires etc etc, but it was like $600. This was about two years ago before things got bad. I bitched and they took it off quick. Guess now they figure they have the demand so they can get away with it.

I agree, but some folks on Reddit the other day were complaining that dealerships are refusing outside finance/cash sales because they want you to use their financing. Wild.
A dealership refusing outside financing or an all cash payment is ludicrous.

Paying only slightly less than new sticker, but it has unlimited mile bumper to bumper warranty until 2027 because it’s LCertified.

Great choice, especially with Lexus certified.
We have an older ‘14 GX & it’s been fantastic. I keep on saying to my Wife that we need to pick up
a ‘21 or ‘22 before they change the body style & that awesome 4.6 v8 for the twin turbo v6.

Nobody probably wants to buy this but there are plenty of Subaru vehicles available on their lots.

The Subaru Outback is probably a great value. Theyre running low low 30s. One I drove as a loaner was $34K after TTL. They're reliable, well built and can go an easy 300K.

Not a bad vehicle if you're looking for a road runner or mom vehicle.

Instead of charging for stuff like lost keys, dents, cracked rims, etc., and to get around a straight ADM, Porsche is requiring people to buy Porsche Design watches.

I'd much rather have a watch than pay for some useless add-on or pay a random ADM, but the whole practice is still pretty shitty.

There are only two types of people buying vehicles right now - the desperate kind and the stupid kind.

that is a pretty broad statement, my daughter was neither desperate or stupid. Just squeezed into a tough spot.

my daughter waited as long as she could to buy a vehicle, she didnt have a car at all in college. That being said, she has graduated, gotten a job and cost of living near her work (downtown Austin) is sky high. So to find an affordable place to live, she has to drive to work. All of her college friends have moved away, most of the people in her office live in the suburbs, so she didnt have a carpool option either. So she had to buy a car.

She Ubered to work for a week - Uber/Lyft during 7-9AM and 4-6PM is 3X ($12 vs $36) the normal price and only getting worse with gas prices. Round trip to work each day was $72! She has to go in four days a week, so she was looking at $280/week in Uber costs. Her car note, insurance and gas is $~600

That’s criminal to say that’s mandatory

what pissed me off was if the car is $2k more than just say it and I said so

all of the add ons were done when the car was new, they hadnt even cleaned the car out from the trade in, much less done anything additional to it.

If you can wait three or four months this will probably flip to a buyer’s market.

Been hearing this for a year and a half. Maybe one day it will finally happen.

That sounds like a Lexus dealer. They tried that BS on us early in the pandemic. We just kept saying nope. We had ordered the car with a big deposit, so we weren’t leaving the dealer without it.

Actually, as far as trucks there is supposed to be huge amount shipping to dealers late, late summer/fall. That coupled with high fuel prices should drive truck prices down significantly.

My son turns sixteen soon and I will be truck shopping. A dealer friend said to wait a bit.

We are going to be looking for a used truck for my son in the next year or so. So far I've just told him it ain't happening anytime soon so don't ask.

Had the exact same experience twice this year. The last vehicle was bought in Amarillo, Tx. Had to fly from Dallas there to get it. The flight was $60.

The dealership had no add ons or market adjustments. I had to search to find it though. The local dealer was $5k more.

My company uses Subaru for company/fleet cars, so I’ve had 2 Outback’s & currently have a ‘20 that has around 70K on the ODO. Other than the huge infotainment being glitchy at times, the car has been reliable, plenty of room for 2 Kids & AWD.

Just wait until the chip shortage abates. The used market will crash and the new market should at least normalize.

That's all good in theory, but when will this happen? Six months, one year, two years??? I thought we would've seen signs of normalization by mid 2022 and there are no signs in sight.

I might have considered this until the OT branded Subaru as the official car of lesbians.

Good question, but how can it last really? One thing I don't understand is how the car companies don't just offer to pay 10X to get the chips now. That might be $1-2K...but on a car. Who cares? Frustrating for sure. Good luck.

“Squeezed into a tough spot” is the definition of desperate in this example.

?- I just had to replace my windshield and Safelite did it in the parking lot while I was at work for about $500.
