Dolby unless you're watching in a real Imax theater (huge screen with laser projection). ~90% of Imax theaters are the "fake ones" and most of the real ones are found at museums etc.

In general, people have lost the understanding of how immersive sound can be for a movie experience. They buy large screen TVs then use the in-TV speakers or a sound bar. It is rare to see someone with even a decent 5.1 system in there home much less a full blown 13.1 system.

Sound is incredibly important in a movie experience, particularly an action move.

Nice arse headphones fixes this for a fraction of the cost.

I’m a loser that lives alone though

I have a decent 7.1 system with a nice sub. I can make shite fall off the walls. I don't think I've ever had it higher than about 50% of what it can do

On the other hand, in my garage, I have a soundbar and a sub and it does a fairly decent job too. But like you said, it's not quite the same.

Is imax reimagined different than regular imax? Mall of LA still has the shitty non reclining seats in their imax don’t they?

In fairness, most rooms aren't set up with seating in the middle such that full surround sound makes sense. But it does surprise me that there aren't more people at least with soundbars with a true center channel. That alone is orders of magnitude better than shite two channel sound.

I mothballed my 7.1 system a few year ago and went with a high end soundbar with sub. I miss the surround system, but all that shite in my living room was just too much.

The soundbar doesn't come close in performance.

You can have it all in-wall and in-ceiling now. If you are willing to pay for it of course.

I put the 4 side and rear speakers in my walls, have the fronts under the wall mounted tv on a stand and the sub behind the tv. The covers for the in-wall speakers are painted to match the color of the paint on the walls. You don't even notice them.
