What is the realistic manual labor rate for people with zero college hours?
Whatever it takes to fill the position. Sounds like $30k isn't enough.

This is what happens when we spend decades putting down “burger flipping” jobs as an insult.

The list of highly successful people whose first job was at McDonalds flipping burgers is long. The list of successful people who worked for free or close to it, as an intern just to get a foot in the door is longer.

The thought of having to live with roommates, forego owning a top of the line smartphone, subscribing to multiple streaming services, etc is beyond most young people today. Work ethic has been replaced by entitlement. They believe that the non-unionized manufacturing jobs are better off overseas because it’s better than American workers getting raped by management. You, the customer, should be happy they showed up for work today and you are an annoyance for showing up at their place of employment as a customer.

Dude you’re insecurities are raging right
Now like a woman’s menstrual cycle. Calm down. No one is questioning you or you’re choices. Simply discussing the idea of a reasonable starting salary for a WH puller.
You can quit trying to defend your work history. Or brag about it. No one really cares since it doesn’t effect anyone besides you

The problem is they over value themselves. An unskilled individual with basic educational background think they are worth more than they are. They also do not see the value of healthcare coverage when the government picks up the tab.
Let’s be real here, the government and social media have painted this narrative that the lazy assed folks who never are motivated to better themselves are victims. Struggling to eat....here’s some food stamps, can’t pay your rent....here’s some bs regulation blocking eviction, can’t make what you think you’re worth.....let’s tax the big bad successful business man. I guaran damn tee your great grandparents didn’t whine or refuse an opportunity to earn a wage and put food on the table during the depression.

Beats nothing. Gives unskilled people a starting place. Most are too short sighted to consider starting wages are not going to be great for no skill and no real education.

Zoomers will live with parents until they're 40 though, I doubt working is much of a priority.

Not really their fault. See my post on average Income relative to housing costs. Zoomers are worse off than those in the Great Depression. They have been screwed by the boomer generation

I think you have no idea how much things cost today. Go try to make a living and raise a family on that type of money and then get back to me. Yes, a lot of people nowadays are lazy and don't want to work, but $15 an hour is no longer a living wage in this economy.

It's an entry-level position. Nobody, except maybe a brainless dope like you, would try to raise a family in that position. I think the real problem is that some of you are so soft and coddled in your lives that it's no longer possible for you to discern the difference between "needs" and "wants". My fiancée earned a DMD and Ph.D. and was paid a stipend during her Ph.D. effort that was barely $20k/year. She paid her living expenses and still saved up over $50k by the time she graduated dental school to pay for her residency program. This idea that a person can't make a living on $15/hour is bullshite, nothing but soft crybaby bullshite.

These people have been told they're worth way more than they really are.

The way to more money is to increase value. Why would employers overpay for people who have no initiative? Why would anyone support more programs for people who will not work?

Probably because manual labor wages could actually put food on the table.

They won’t listen

They will just give you the “their lazy and entitled” stock answer even when facts stare them in the face

Very true. But a lot of people who think they’re worth more aren’t.

The benefits probably add at least another $15k to the starting wage. I guess I was different when I was in my early 20's b/c I valued getting in with a good company and working my way up. Didn't want to be a 22 yr old working in fast food.

Eh. Is 6% 401k match really a benefit when you don’t make enough money to utilize it? Nobody making $30k is putting 6% of their earnings into a retirement account.

I get what you’re saying for sure — I made $26k at my first non service industry job and really that’s all I deserved because I was basically just a warm body. But that barely feeds and shelters you these days.

Maybe we should go back to 1950's type housing (lots of boarding houses, small homes, etc) and regulations.

If they can't fill the position then they aren't overpaying.

But I guess you understand markets and I don't, right?

In sure they would much rather enter a workforce where their salary afforded them the opportunity of hone ownership similar to every generation before them……

You are so out of touch with reality keyboard warrior. If you think I'm soft, you pick the Sonic and I'll meet you there.
