re: On airplanes, why is the luggage bin not specific to the assigned seat?

Ban flight attendants from shoving their shite in the bins and there would be a few more for the rest of us!
Not sure if serious…

Had to fly first class last week because the Citation was getting new carpet and seats. Quit the harrowing experience
You didn't use your backup Citation?
Damn poors.

It wasn't an issue until they started charging for checked baggage.
This, this.
Just like they don't actually guarantee you a seat if you buy a seat, the airlines also don't build the plans with carry on space for everyone.
And their desire to charge for a checked bag just makes this situation a lot worse.

Load the damn plane from back to front.
That way you are filling up space in overhead from back to front. No wasted space. When you run out of space, everything else gets gate checked.

The problem is everyone brutally overpacks for a trip. It never fails that someone will be going on a weekend trip, and will bring 2 huge bags and a carryon. That’s three bags for a total of a day and a half most likely of actual vacation time. Are you planning on shitting yourself 6 times a day? Women are the absolute worst at this.

Blows my mind. My wife has gotten pretty good with it, but that’s taken many years of consistent pressure from me, little by little
But yeah, unless you’re moving or you’re traveling somewhere you could literally freeze to death, there’s probably not a good reason for needing to check a bag.

So you actually think people follow instructions while flying?? That’s rich

You’ll always have the random a-hole, but most do. Or at least follow instructions within a fairly predictable range of deviation.

Well, since the current situation doesn't require anything powered, your solution sounds expensive and would require more maintenance. Never going to happen.
It doesn’t have to be powered. The real issue is there’s not nearly enough room down there. Unless they want to effectively double leg room there’s no way to have a luggage compartment under each individual seat.

They need to ban large carryons altogether. The time it takes to board and deplane has gotten ridiculous.

Yes, that's why they should board back to front and have a flight attendant making sure people put their bags over their seat.

Ok this clown doesn’t travel much. Just got off my flight today with my two carryons and was out the airport in 3 minutes. Having to go to baggage claim and wait for your luggage….F that
I'm hoping he means "pink tagging" a large carryon that they SHOULD have waiting for you on the jet bridge..
By the time Betty-in-a-hurry pops up and dashes four rows ahead of her seat to wrestle down a knockoff Louis Vuitton suitcase she crammed into overheard, your pink tag will probably be ready on the bridge.

I don't know but there has to be a way to improve the shite show getting off and on planes - it always takes way longer than it should.

People think they're winning life by skipping baggage claim and carrying on everything make me laugh

What I do is if anyone has something stowed in the bin above my seat, I just pull out what’s there and throw it on the floor and put my shite in there. Problem solved.
