Everyone just assumes A&M will be great the next few years, but I still have my doubts. Especially with the entire west being formidable.

The portal is going to be overflowing especially in this day of instant Gratification. There are only so many snaps for the lineman per game. They have a lot of guys to keep happy.

Not even listed as a top-2 for starting QB position.

I said it when he left: Max will be lucky to see the field holding for FG/XP.

We would’ve beaten Bama last year if we didn’t have Max Johnson at QB

Not really bashing Max but I read an article written by a Texas aTm reporter about the scrimmage stating that although Max did have a great run on one play, he still had trouble throwing the deep ball to receivers and holding on to the ball too long.. things we’ve seen before when he was at LSU.. doesn’t seem they have corrected it there either..

We’re better than A&M in every way possible so way do we have to make shitte up about a guy that’s not even in our program anymore?

Texas A&M will have better overall talent than LSU this fall because the the recruiting class they brought in this year.

They had better talent on game day vs LSU,MSST,Ole Miss, and Arkansas last season.......

Elko is GONE.....Jimbos 2003 Offense remains...

And Max will absolutely be their starter. King is trash and Weigman just isn’t ready yet.

Your analysis makes no sense to me. His TD/int ratio was solid

I phrased it poorly.

I expected him to do better in his second season. Yes, it's a very valid point that he had a pretty bad Oline but some of his decisions are just.... head scratchers. Throwing it forward behind his back? There were other moments but on the other side of the coin, he did win the A&M game too. We actually were in it to beat Bama as well.

He did stick it out though so my comment on him not being an SEC QB was wrong. That was wrong on my part. I'll admit.

I'm saying he can't improve, I'm just wondering how much he will. Maybe he'll improve a ton. Who knows. I know Jimbo is sort of the QB guru but I guess we'll see.

Again, I wasn't trying to drag the kid through the mud.

Is he though? Winston had college success but has been a disappointment in the pros. Outside of him, who has he developed into a great QB?

I dont think Max would have started had he stayed... prob the reason he left...

Haynes King will start at TAMU.. and he is damn good... has that "it" factor... Coached against him since he was in 7th grade, watched him damn near beat the hell out of his Olineman on the field for missing a block... Lineman bulldozed his opponent (UT commit) the rest of the game... Haynes king isn't flashy at all, but he's a coach's son and winner...

He hasnt shown he's "damn good" at all in college yet. First start against Kent state went pretty poorly, threw 3 picks. Struggled this spring game.

He fell off quite a bit his senior year of high school. Definitely a "remains to be seen" if he's any good in college.

Almost every 4 and 5 star looks like beasts in high school, hence why they get rated that way. I mean we've seen countless highly rated recruits come through LSU, dominate high school and never actually make it in college.

dont even care about his star rating (cause I dont know it) he isnt flashy AT ALL... the opposite of flashy, honestly, hes downright ugly as shite... but that SOB isnt scared of shite and he handled that Oline...

look, i cant stand TAMU... I hate them more than anyone else in our conference... but I know that kid and his dad, and im telling you that SOB can play...and the scary part, those other guys around him believe in him...

I really don't know what he or Jimbo saw. Was a dumb move. He's simply limited and that's TAMU's problem. As long as Jimbone is there he thinks he can mold any QB. This will be their problem even with all those 5* rolling into the university. Jimbo is the problem on offense.

TJ Finley is not half as good as Southeastern's QB from last season, Cole Kelley. He's the Dollar General version of Cole Kelley, in fact.

A dominant DL can win you a lot of games in any conference. Out of 3 five stars 1 is usually a bust, 1 is a good player and 1 is a star. With that formula they will have a DL full of stars and plenty of depth. Add to that the potential for a great QB and they will be in playoff contention in 23/24.

The transfer portal will undoubtedly influence the "5 star" personnel.

Not dissing Max. The program the last two years has sucked.

His stats are respectable considering most fans expectations of him...

There's no way in hell TAMU is keeping that roster of 5* players. They will transfer. Admittedly, it's a good strategy for them. They can identify the alpha dogs and let the others walk. Pay them all to get to campus, find the great ones, let the other ones who are slower to develop walk. Could bite them in the arse could buy them a championship. I still think their great handicap will always be Jimbo.

Johnson was a solid QB at LSU who was placed in a bit of a tough situation to start his career. His first start being as a true Freshman on the road vs. a 1 loss Florida team that would eventually win the SEC East. Given the circumstances he had a very good final two games of the 2020 season. It was very likely he would have been the starter in 2021 even if Brennan weren't injured. He also had to deal with a new, first time OC, on a team that, with a buffoon head coach, would ultimately prove to be in the worst downturn in 20 years.

Johnson had good number relative to just about every LSU QB besides Burrow. He was a solid player who many LSU fans would be crowing about a "2 year starter" going into this season had he not transferred to A&M. That said, he was never "dynamic" and, probably like his father, never was going to be. He (at LSU) was a solid QB who could win you games if the pieces were in place around him. But he was likely never going to be a playmaker who could overcome some weaknesses on other parts of the offense (i.e. poor OL; no running game, inexperience at WR, etc). The crescendo of that was the Alabama game where you could make a strong argument LSU was the better team that night everywhere except QB. Certainly his OL didn't help him out much. But there were multiple opportunities to make big plays to give LSU a huge upset which he just didn't make.

I think he could be solid at A&M, just like he was at LSU. But he's not a guy like Burrow, or Young, or even Corrall last year (at times) where you can do everything right on defense and the QB still beats you. And Jimbo's "system" is not exactly QB friendly relative to the current state of offensive football. It is more of an old school approach that even LSU abandoned a few years back. Guys can have good games in Jimbo's system, but it often takes everything else being perfect for that to happen (good running game and great OL play in particular).

Exactly. Just say it what is is, he's limited. There's no shame in it. He doesn't have the physical gifts to take a team to the next level. You're absolutely right on Jimbo too. This is why I do not understand this move for him or Jimbo. I think it was a bad move for both.
