Looking to get some feedback, and thought the Money Board would be my best bet for legitimate responses. In the process of applying to NP school, and was curious about salaries here in LA. I'm 36 and currently a house supervisor for a small cardiac hospital in Lafayette. Salary has ranged from $107k-113k the last few years putting in 36-44 hours a week on average. From talking to some cardiology NPs, it seems like I make about the same or more than them and work less hours (no weekends, no call, and when I clock out, I'm done). Some coworkers suggested psych NP is the way to go (salary range $140k-180k/year, but I could not get a concrete answer). Curious to see if anyone has first-hand knowledge about NP salaries, especially new grads working in ERs, rural clinics, and psych.

So 40 hours, on average?

Are these numbers base salary or total comp?

I'm an NP and those cardiology NPs are correct. I've been doing remote work overseas the past few years and have been debating on taking an RN assignment during my leave time because there are RN positions all over the country paying a higher rate than what you can currently make in the LA/TX/MS region as an NP.

Psych NP (PMHNP) is paying as much as your higher paying ER positions, but having to deal with psych issues all day...no way. Also, there are PMHNP positions all over these days.

Salary wise as a new NP grad: my first position was in an ED $70/hr, a RHC will pay about +/- $45-50/hr, and psych will be in that $140-180K range.

It depends on the setting. Urgent cares pay a little more than hospitals on average. My wife has gotten offered between $50-65 an hour typically. Most places are between 36-48 hours a week

Psych does pay more from what I remember but there are some other certifications if I remember correctly.

RNs are making crazy money right now. I want my wife to do NP but it’s kind of pointless with the wages they are being offered for RN

Psych is paying more now, but seems everyone going to NP school is going the Psych route. Pool will be come flooded soon, salaries are already seeing a dip.

My recommendation is to seek out the field you want, not chase the $$$.

Pretty sure we may know each other or have crossed paths in Laffy. ED NPs are around $70-$75hr in this area from what I have heard.

I would agree with most people above. Your current salary is more than most NP's start out depending on the field. I do Occ Med. Started in the 90's and have worked myself up over the 6 figure mark rather quickly. I do take call but my call pay is extra money on top of my salary.
