My cousin and his family are visiting from Tennessee. He has a weekly friendly game up there. He considers himself above average with basic knowledge. He wants to win but if he loses it’s not that big a deal. The last time I ocassionally played there was way before Covid. Not sure how it is now but I told him some general stuff:
1)if an old dude puts a lot of money in the pot, he should fold without the goods.
2)Asians like to bluff
3)don’t bluff the brothers

That’s all I got.

If Big Dick Slick Rick is there, your cousin will lose all of his money and his wife, most likely

Bring this to the MSB because I'd be interested in serious answers as well

I’ve heard that there’s so many regulars, it’s like their personal home game.

I’ve played there a few times with mixed results. What you said is pretty close.

Pretty sure the poker room doesn’t exist anymore.

Don't sit if you see any of these guys at the table.

Because of this I assume he probably isn't as good as he thinks he is.

That's cute.

He might be among his buddies. Tell him to get good and drunk so the regulars can buy some extra nice cigars this week.

Yes stick to these rules and you should do swell.

In general, Asians like to try to "buy pots" more than traditional bluffing.

I've seen it happen more than once with an Asian. One time this Asian dude came to the table I was on. He sits down and clearly has the most chips (in value) than anyone else at the table. After every flop he would push all in, everyone folds and bought about 4 or 5 straight hands..

Everyone was just letting this dude eat away at everyone's chips so I said frick it.. He went all in and I called. I won, double up and it didn't even put a dent in his stack.

A few hands later I called him again and beat him. The next hand someone else calls him and they beat him.. And you can see he was getting pissed. A few hands go buy and I decided to do it again. I won. I beat him with like a pair of 8s while he had high card. Dude grabs his stack and looks at me and said "you play stupid. You got lucky and didn't get your pair until the turn" I said something like "so would you recommend I go to a table, go all in every hand and try to buy pots?" and he told me something along with "frick you". As he walked off I yelled "I appreciate you donating to my stack".

He goes off, but is still visible talking with another Asian and kept looking at the table. These dudes at the table were all like "let him try to do something to you!" and this one kind of drunk dude was like "yeah, that mother fricker came to this table and thought he was going to just take out money, but we let him know".. and I am thinking "mother fricker.. I let him know and the only other person to call him one time... was not you".. but anyway, got carried away with that story.

But Pete, if your cousin thinks he is good and doesn't mind losing money.. Let me know if you bring him to L'auberge because I might actually show up to come play with him.

As I sit in the Belagio poker room reading TD, I think the last time I was in BR the game was kinda soft. Your friend should do well if he has any skills at all.

Just don’t bluff and play good hands your first few times, you will be fine if you have a large enough stack
