Vietnam was a clusterfrick on a number of levels but mixing troops who didn’t want to be there with shitty doctrine was a total mess.
The military and political leadership didn’t understand the people or the country and figured that bombing the shite out of everyone would work.
If people have lived in a particular village for generation, relocating them to a government built hamlet with nothing to do is a bad fricking idea.
If the enemy’s supply lines are based on motherfrickers walking, pushing wheelbarrows, or riding bikes, the kinds of bombs meant to take out airplane runways are a waste of time for that job.
Etc.

It's not just Biden and Austin. Whoever replaces him in 2024 would have to basically purge the ranks of anyone O7 and above and 75% of E9s to have a chance.
Milley and Grinston would need to be thrown out on their asses at minimum.
