Agreed. If we want this back we are just going to have to deal with it. It's about not about if you think saying you suck is a big deal, it's about if they think saying you suck is a big deal. They have laid out the terms, I just hope that students will do what they have to do to get the chant back and keep it back.

I hope the students do chant "you suck." I am tired of the band and athletic department being a bunch of idiots who punish LSU fans and LSU tradition in an attempt to gain unnecessary control over LSU students.

Tiger Rag is the basis for almost all of LSU's musical tradition. To take it out of the rotation over an obscene chant that has been done for years and years? Bush league. It reflects worse on LSU that they let the obscene chants win out over tradition instead of playing it loud and proud regardless and finding another solution, which is what they should have done.

What's worse is that not enough of the LSU family has called them out on this decision making.

Well obviously YOU get it.

Like I said. This song gets played once and then it's done.

I'm not sure what the rolling eyes are for...I don't think anyone can really deny that it's a double standard. If LSU doesn't want us to have vulgar chants, ok, i can buy that...but stop making profits on vulgar shirts. Seriously, a shirt that says "Beat the Cocks"?

There's no way the student section won't say "you suck" after the oh-wee-oh, although I am sure they have been soundly disciplined by mammy and pappy administration for adding "cocks" during the South Carolina game. Geez. It's a football game.

If you really think that the height of maturity is being obsessed with LSU football, haunting the message boards, but certainly not cursing, then you are much more childish than you think.

No, what you don't understand is you can't say "you suck cocks" on live fricking television and that chant was going on when they would come back from commercials. We all want LSU to be in the limelight so we need to act like it.

Apparently, you don't realize that the band has nothing to do with this. It wasn't their decision to stop playing. The order came from the AD. If the higher ups tell the band not to play a song, they have no choice but to comply. It amazes me that some people still think that Mr. Wickes and TGBFTL were somehow trying to "punish" the students. That's assinine.

I believe that that sentiment was created in part by some of the (self-professed) members of Tigerband posting on this very forum stating precisely that. But it's been months since that happened, and I might not be remembering everything clearly.

actually if you read the article it was the bands decision to submit a claim to stop playing it. of course the AD isnt going to support curse words, he'd get fired for that. The article also said that after the first TD, the band will be quiet to see how the students react. then after the next TD they will play the beat. then the band directors will go from there. i dont see it lasting since the bottom section of the student section has been doing a sped up A cappella version since its removal.

I admit that I didn't read the whole article, and I never knew that. I was inclined to believe the band members that occasionally post here when they said they had no control over it. Well, it that's the case then Nov. 1st will be the first and the last time we hear that chant played this year.

they probly didnt have control over it. when i say the band wanted to stop playing it im referring to the leaders and directors. so in a sense we're both right. it will be interesting, hope it all works out.

First of all a "tradition" is not yelling "You suck" after a touchdown. That started halfway through the season, and obviously, was stopped abruptly. I think tradition is something like marching the same pre-game drill as they did 50 years ago.

It also is not unneccesary control. Do you think the band does not get media coverage? Every time the band plays something, and the students follow their lead, it gives the band an image. Quite frankly, i would care less what the Reveille says about the band as opposed to a major media outlet saying that LSU's band needs to be disbanded like "Wyoming's" band. (google it, if you don't know what im talking about).

And you can't take anything the reveille says to be true. They also quoted Rob Dowie saying "Tiger Band is sick of the student section". When in fact, Rob Dowie said, "Tiger Band is sick of having to work hard every day of the week to put together new musical performances, and then watch the university disband them because of the actions of the student section". The Reveille is garbage. And anybody who reads it is garbage.

Why bother? Maybe they could do it in the 2nd half when all the students have left.

Exactly--see how the chant sounds with 250 drunk students left in the fourth quarter of the Troy game...

No kidding, no one thinks "you suck" or even the older "a-hole, a-hole" is anything that should be called tradition. Hell, I don't even care that much about the Wizard of Oz bit coming back, that's not really that important to LSU tradition either.

Tiger Rag, however, is something that should have never ever been taken away from the repertoire so easily. Did the band directors/A.D. at least try to start a dialogue before just pulling the song? No, they just took away something that was very important to the history of LSU because of cheered obscenities that can rarely, if ever, be heard on TV. Frankly, "Kick their arse" has been much easier to hear on TV and radio over the years.

Its just ridiculous that some people made arbitrary decisions to remove important traditions involved with LSU without alternative steps, dialogues, or warnings first.
