Only then did they ask the NCAA for an exception to have it again.
Conference championships make sense in a 2/4 team playoff, but expand it out to 12/18/24 and it just doesn't matter anymore - those two teams of the P5 conferences would be in the playoff anyway. Save that game and use it for a week of the playoffs.

Nebraska and Colorado should never have left the XII, I miss that conference in that makeup.

Good. The Rose Bowl is trying to preserve one of the few traditions left in our grand game.

Nobody cares about the Rose Bowl anymore and I'm pretty sure the area they live cares even less. Why are we still acting like this bowl is special?

Old B1G and PAc12 fans still think getting to the Rose Bowl is the goal of every season.

Apparently they don't realize that if you are B1G and your team is going to the RB that likely means you finished second/lost the B1GCG.

Hell, I think the "Road to the Rose Bowl" sign still hangs over the tunnel at Camp Randall.

It sucks but it hasn't been the actual goal for years now. TIme for the old heads to move the frick on.

11 game regular season. No conf champ. 16 team playoff.

After the 11 game regular season, All FBS teams that don't make the playoff play a 12th game. It would be against a team not in your conference, who finished in a place in conference similar to yours.

Same weekend, round of 16 in the playoffs.

Playoffs then continue: Quarters, semis, finals

Concurrent with the quarters and later rounds... have bowl season. The 8 teams who lost in the first round of playoffs are eligible for bowl season as well as all other non-playoff teams with 6 wins.

In such a system, every team is guaranteed 12 games (same as now), many will play 13 (same as now) and no one will play more than 15 (same as now).

Amazing how the NCAA has ZERO problem with the 24 team format in the FCS, but when it comes to FBS level the powers that be clutch their pearls over the amount of games.

Only 11 regular season games and no conference title games.

They play fewer regular season games. Teams that make the FCS championship currently play the same number of games as teams that make the CFP championship.

I think we can quantify FBS football being more physical and hard hitting than lower levels

There hasn't been a season where the 4 seed was deserving.

Ohio State was a 4 seed the very first CFP and won it all. And Bama was a 4 seed when they beat UGA in 2017.

In every level of football from HS to the NFL and lower divisions of CFB they have a legit playoff with auto qualifiers and wild cards but for some reason people pretend it can't work specifically in FBS for whatever reason.

Good. The last bastion of CFB tradition.

Stay strong among the sellouts.

Who wants to see this at night? You cant. Its not the same.

Same with the game starting at dusk vs. ending at dusk.

As I have posted a hundred times, the vast majority of every CFP games have been blowouts, the last thing we need is more teams, clown world.

If you expand to 12, you would be asking some teams to potentially play 17 games right?

Dump the FCS games. If people still want them so badly have FBS teams play them in spring instead of doing lame arse spring games.

This is way too simple to be screwed up this royally. Make the Rose Bowl a permanent playoff game on New Years Day. Expand to 8 teams.

Have the Fiesta, Rose, Orange, Peach, Cotton and Sugar Bowls be the playoff games each year. 4 of those can be the quarterfinals. 2 can be the semifinals. The title game game can continue to go to some random city that’s the highest bidder.

The college football postseason is the only thing I can think of that people think the best way to fix the problem is to expand it without doing anything to actually address the problem and the simpletons LOVE IT.

It's such a good analogy for buying louder speakers to cover up the noises your car makes rather than actually addressing the issue.

17 games is called a regular season in the NFL.
