Keenum says 3 obstacles prevented expansion:

- format (8v12; AQs)

- # of xtra games

And… Rose Bowl. “We’ve got a bowl with a keen interest in preserving their date & time. That’s part of the negotiating package with a media provider. Does that add value or cost value for CFP?”

Good for the rose bowl. We don’t need an expanded play off

I agree, but I am happy they are an impediment in this instance.

Amazing how the NCAA has ZERO problem with the 24 team format in the FCS, but when it comes to FBS level the powers that be clutch their pearls over the amount of games.

I really don't understand what the difference is with FBS/FCS.

More people having a chance to win a title is a good thing.

North Dakota State played 15 games this year.

If you expand to 12, you would be asking some teams to potentially play 17 games right?

12 regular season, conference championship, round of 12 with 4 byes, quarter finals, semi finals, finals.

I mean, I enjoy the Rose Bowl for what it is because there’s nothing else to do on NYD but in no way should it continue to allow holding the college football world hostage the way it does. Ridiculous that the College Football Playoff has to revolve its schedule around that overhyped game.

Mark Packer on ESPNU has said Sankey doesn't want 8. 12 is probably too big of a jump. If you go to 12, I would eliminate conference championship games. But, greedy conferences probably don't want to do that. I'm fine with 4. Michigan, Michigan State, Oregon, Washington, Florida State, and Oklahoma have had their opportunities, even while Bama/Clemson/OSU/UGA/LSU have owned the format.

I'm ok w/6. Top 2 get a bye and 3 plays 6 and 3 plays 4 at the higher-seeded teams' stadium.

I wouldn't go any higher than that.

frick it, I want a full 64 team tournament. Have it stretch from mid December to mid January. Call it Winter Maddness. It'll make billions.

We're doing this backwards. Instead of expanding the playoff the powers that control College Football should be working on a format that brings the Power 5 together. Eliminate the cupcake games and only play P5 teams. 9 conference games and then play three or two non conference contests. Invent a 'pre-season' where teams can play G5 teams in week zero. Baffles me why ESPN still allows Alabama/Georgia/Ohio State, etc to play 3 non competitive games on their networks every season.

Consolidating the regular season will make creating a new post season easier.

Nobody cares about the Rose Bowl anymore and I'm pretty sure the area they live cares even less. Why are we still acting like this bowl is special? Especially when they've gone far out of their way in the past to choose undeserving teams to "preserve tradition" over deserving teams.

Rose bowl’s tradition cheated fans out of Penn st vs Nebraska in 93 and Michigan vs Nebraska in 97. Kiss my arse grand daddy of them all.

There hasn't been a season where the 4 seed was deserving. No reason to bring in an undeserving 5 through 12.

They want to preserve the time and date because everyone will find out it is just another bowl game if moved.

yup

current format is not perfect, but infinitely better than expansion to 8 or 12

my ideal is re-introduce the BCS, and top 4 make playoff

FCS doesn't play the conference championship, so toss that out. It's a meaningless money grab when both teams will likely be in the expanded playoff. Also, go back to a 10 or 11 game season by cutting out one of the cupcake games. Boom - you're parallel with the FCS.

Matter of fact, I think the conferences are against expansion because they don't want to lose that conference championship game.
