Lou Holtz. Football coach was
asked what is the difference in
football players today and 50 years
ago. He answered "Simple, Today's
athletes talk about rights and
privileges. And the players 50 years
ago talked about obligations and
responsibilities !"

Players opting out are doing so for life changing money and opportunities. Are they really going risk that so you can feel good about your team playing in a meaningless bowl? It's absurd. Your school pride about 1 game doesn't feed their families for years.

The average NFL salary 50 years ago was $23,000.

The average NFL salary in 2021 is $860,000.

Do you think that may have something to do with it? Life changing money vs. one year of college tuition can maybe change a players outlook on a situation.

in 1970, the first round draft picks salaries averaged $45,000 with a bonus of $80,000.

In 2021, The 15th pick got a $15 million dollar contract with an $8 million dollar bonus.

The players don’t owe anything to me, a fan. If not playing in a bowl game is what they feel is the best decision for them, so be it. As a fan, I don’t like it. But I’m not going to say it is the “wrong” decision

What is way worse than any player deciding to opt out or transfer is the remote idea that any of those players owe you, the fan, any considerations whatsoever.

The game needs to change. No one can blame kids for opting out if they can go make NFL money

The only constant in this world is that things will always be changing. I get a lot of people don’t like it but it’s not going to change. You can either accept it or choose to stop watching.

Players have always opted out, now they just say it rather than claiming injury

I think ESPN should broadcast the CFP national championship for the love of the game. Go commercial free. Accept no ad dollars. No promoting Disney products. No executive takes a paycheck that week. On-air talent does it gratis.

Do this for the love of the game.

Yes, it absolutely does.

Lou nailed it.
People feel, think, and believe that accountability ends with themselves now days.

This phenomenon is two to three centuries in the making, but it is now prevalent as we have shifted to what the Jewish intellectual Philip Rieff has labeled the “third world”, which he defines as “anti culture.”

All forms of structure, organization, institutions are rejected at a whim. There is no thought of history or community. There is nothing that binds an individual to anything other than himself. I make myself and determine who I want to be and what I want people to see me as. And they better see me as I want to be seen. And if you don’t agree with me, you’re a backwards bigot.

It’s very sad.

The bowl games are meaningless and just making money for the schools. If they aren’t playing for playoffs or a championship, the kids now a days feel like they are a waste of time. Expand the playoffs and you cut down on this!

College football also wasn't a multi-billion dollar entertainment industry back then.

This is outrageous!
Who was responsible for raising all these young people and failing to teach them proper values?
The parents and grandparents of these greedy young adults should be called task!

18-20yr old kid who I really could give a damn about other than about 2 hrs on Saturdays in the fall, doesn't want to play in a game that in the grand scheme of things really only matters to me the fan. So now I'm on a crusade to say a kid I've never met or talked to is a loser and a quitter and doesn't give a damn or have any heart.

All you everything was better 50 years ago, guys need to be put out to pasture. Again I don't have a problem with 1st or 2nd day picks opting out. If you are not that then you should play, but you cant truly judge any person fairly without actually meeting them.
