His social media usage should be noted as always being needy. He just wants attention. The funny thing is this would be a great place for him especially if Boutte stays. That side of the field will be one on one.

Someday we will learn that those things come from a very loud minority if posters that freak out in dramatic fashion every time sone thing negative is rumored.

Agree. Once a player enters the portal he is no longer on scholarship and should not be allowed to enter or use player areas or equipment.

If D Smith returns that completely makes up for losing the top 3 WRs from Louisiana this year. Then we go big in the ‘23 class with some big in state WR prospects.

If we have Boutte, Bech, Thomas, Nabers, Hilton AND Smith next year, that’s the most talented top 6 WRs in the country IMO

Anybody know if there are rules on that? I would imagine there would be. Don't know how it works, but if he's in the portal, wouldn't he be an uncommitted player?

seriously, you really think sucking up is going to keep him here. I hope he stays here also because he's got talent but he is going to do whatever he wants to do.

we NEED this kid to stay... Boutte and Smith would be one of the best WR duos in the SEC, if not the country...

I’m not sure about any rules, but Emory Jones just played for Florida in the bowl game after it came out he was going to the portal.

While I agree with the “you are with me, or you are against me “ thought process…..IF you want that player back on your team, you must recruit him just like the other teams.

The problem now is that all of these decisions are public. Sometimes because of the players, sometimes because of the school. I cannot imagine my decisions as a 18-19 year old being public knowledge.

That was likely a difference between announcing that he was entering the portal and officially doing so. I’m not sure on that particular situation, but that’s likely how he handled it.

Smith is a different case. He visited Ole Miss before ESD (he was one of the guys pictured with Lane’s Porche), and he could only make a visit elsewhere if he was officially in the portal. I haven’t heard about him withdrawing from the portal, so I’m not sure what’s going on with him or how the rules apply.

I still prefer Dudley DeBosier as they’re the official injury lawyers of the LSU Tigers, but Gordon is getting it done!

Hes never been in the portal. Everyone would know if he was and he hasn't been.

That’s difficult to confirm since the NCAA doesn’t release an official list. However:

1. He announced he was entering the portal in early December.

2. 247 listed him as officially being in the portal and still has him on the list.

3. He went on a visit to Oxford before ESD. Not sure if it was official or unofficial, but that wouldn’t really matter if he was having direct contact with the staff and other recruits.

4. He was pictured with Lane Kiffin on that visit.

I don’t see how the last two wouldn’t be tampering violations and real problems with the SEC and NCAA if Smith wasn’t in the portal. Players can’t take visits to other schools until they are no longer on scholarship. If Smith wasn’t in the portal, then he didn’t renounce his scholarship here. I don’t think Ole Miss’ compliance people would drop the ball that badly.

I'd say this settles it.

Except he is still on scholarship if he is enrolled unless the school pulls it. If the school thinks they want to make an effort to keep the kid and there is a chance, why wouldn't you let him stick around? If the school thinks he is already gone, that is different.
