Did anyone catch the special that Fox Sports aired about him Christmas Day before the game that was on Fox? I didn’t see it, but it looked like it would be very good. Definitely want to watch it now

A very sad day. A true legend of the sport. Highest winning% of all time. He led his team to the AFL/AFC championship in 69, 70, 73, 74, 75, 76, and 77….. a great coach.

Part of my joy in watching football, captivated me as a teen watching him announce the biggest games.
RIP
He is also a part of one of my favorite football quotes, I think after the Holy Roller play and from the Raiders radio guy.
“Madden is on the field, wondering if it’s for real!! The ref lets him know it is, now get your big butt off the field!”
RIP
And of course, Madden ‘93 or 4 or 5
So much fun

It was outstanding. Summerall was the perfect NFL PBP guy and Madden was the gold standard for analysts. Slowly, but surely, my childhood is fading.

There was a fraction of a second facial expression that Jimmy Johnson made when the Fox Pregame referenced the prior Madden Special, that I filed away..
I didn't know if he knew something we didn't, or if it just hit too close to home for JJ at his age and recent health issues.
I'm guessing the former.

What kind of stupidity is that?
You think honoring the guy is removing his name from his legendary game so he could soon be forgotten?
I mean his name literally made that game. It's fricking Madden.
He's a liberal racist who thinks taking aint jemima out is good for black people

I’m always fascinated that he retired from coaching at the age of 42.
He coached in 7 Conference Championship games, won a Super Bowl, and won 75% of his games.

Bummer, he was great.
I'm shocked that he made it to 85.
He was morbidly obese when he was in his 30's.

So sad. RIP Mr Madden. You are a legend.

Plus he was an asst coach on the 67 SB team and 68 AFL champ game when they lost to jets.

How he was able to keep that crazy group of maverick’s, misfits, troublemaking, renegades all focused to win games on Sunday’s was a noble feat in itself.
RIP Coach, you were among the best.

Dick Enberg. Pat Summerall. AL Michaels. Brent Musberger. John Madden. Howard Cosell. Don Meredith. Keith Jackson
All of them are gone now except for Al and Musberger.
And Brent was really good in his prime. Al is top-5 all-time IMO.
