Yeah, if you are playing for a 5th season, you really are not playing for the NFL.

This kid has an opportunity to have 15 bowl practice and develop major chemistry with a freshman wr core and put himself in the drivers seat as QB1 next year. It’s also a chance to help his TEAM win a football game and not have a losing record.
And it would be the perfect audition for the new coach. Chance to show him what he’s made of. He can send a strong message one way or another. I’m a team guy and want to help my team win or I’m more worried about myself and my future. I’m sure Kelly will be monitoring it closely.

But where would he go? A nice bowl win tape with prep as the starter would most likely result in opportunities at bigger and better D1 schools vs Sunbelt. So he has something to gain as well.

I believe it's very much to his advantage to play the bowl game. A big time performance would make a big statement going into next year. Now if he plays like shite that would suck for him but you've got to show your cards at some point and the time is now.

Whoever plays the best this off-season will end the job.
Nuss could go 31-35, 300 yards and 4 TDs and if Walker beats him out, the job is his.
This game is meaningless to him long term outside of the opinion of people on a message board and social media. If he's being pressured to play by Davis, Kelly or anyone on the coaching staff not only would I not play, I'd enter the portal myself.

I doubt we start walker as a freshman if nuss is any good so he needs to play.
If Walker is better, he starts.

Screw the redshirt. Great chance to play and shine. LSU has a long history of non-starters coming in and shining in bowl (and similar) games.
2005 - Flynn came in and lit up Miami.
2007 - Perrilloux filled in for an injured Flynn in the SECCG and beat Tenn.
2008 - JJ lit up Ga Tech in his 2nd start of the season.
2013 - Jennings replaced injured Mettenberger; he didn't light it up, but he helped beat Iowa.

Him playing or sitting will be all I need to know about him.
I would assume that Coach Davis might also have a say in this, so don’t make any snap decisions based on whether he plays or not
FWIW You can bet he wants to play! He’s a competitor and thrives in the competition. If he’s not out there, it wasn’t his decision

This makes it 100% about him and 0% about LSU. I guess that's just the way things are nowadays

Nuss - Redshirt
Is now purple and gold. Next man up...

The Nuss redshirt stuff is pretty overblown. A redshirt doesn’t have to be used in your first season. Nuss can redshirt next season. Or if he’s good enough and starts from here on out it won’t matter if he used a redshirt or not. Or if he transfers he can use his redshirt to not lose a year during his transfer.

CBK will undoubtedly get a good QB in the transfer portal. Nuss has an opportunity to be the leader going into Spring practice next year with a great showing in the bowl game. If he plays poorly, he most likely will enter the transfer portal with Howard and a top transfer coming in, as he will have dug himself a hole. This is where MJ has made a bad decision. His last pass for LSU was a game winner against a hated foe. He was in first place going into next spring, and he apparently, for whatever reason, didn't value that.

IMO, he really has no choice but to play if he intends to compete for the job next year. This isn't a few weeks ago when Max was going to start the next game after he wasn't able to get the job done. He is now the next man up.
Nuss came here to be the man, to lead the Tigers.
Well, you have the keys now. What are you going to do?
I know what Burrow would do. He would grab this opportunity and never look back. He would take over the locker room and will team forward.
He can put a stamp on the job this month or he can go into Spring as just another QB that we question whether he will transfer if he doesn't get his way.

His choice!! Not a big deal

Why wouldn't Nuss play the bowl. It's pretty simple. There is a bowl game that LSU is in; Nuss is a QB for LSU; he plays.

I don't understand the redshirt issue. It gets used any time you play less than 5 games, which can happen in any season. You don't lose it if you play your freshman year like decades ago.
