West Virginia's US Senator Joe Manchin will call for an investigation "whether any inappropriate/unethical actions were taken by members of Congress on [realignment] decision ..."

Also says "WVians and the American people deserve to know exactly what is going on & whether politics is interfering with our college sports ..."

And y'all thought the Big XII/A&M deal was messy

This sums it up nicely-

ClayTravisBGID Clay Travis
Big 12 trying to add Big East school is like two drunkest people at bar trying to hook up. It's never pretty.

That is very funny and sadly true.

Manchin getting involved makes me think the Big12 really is considering ditching WV and taking Louisville.

I would think if the Big12 was trying to add them both, that someone would have already let Manchin know that "everything's good, no reason to freak out."

This kind of political interference will force colleges to "go pro" much quicker than money.

I think them having to add both is the most likely outcome....they can then either play Big 10 style with 11 teams, or add Cincy too and go back to the normal Big 12.

Idiots. All the way around.

I think that Joe Manchin and Mitch McConnell should fight it out. Let them do some bare knuckle boxing until one of them is knocked out. The winner gets his way.

You know the Whorns would be all over this. It would give them content for the LHN.

Can't add both without the existing Big XII schools taking a pay cut. Fox has told them that they must have 10 schools in order not to have the new cable contract voided, but, Fox won't increase the compensation if they have more than 10. What are the chances that Texas agrees to take less in order to add more than 10 teams? I'd say slim, although I guess I wouldn't say they are nonexistent.

I often have to step back and try to calculate how many team are in that God-forsaken conference.

So, if Missouri leaves, they will have nine, right?

If they add both schools, that will get them to 11. So, they really need to add three schools or just one.

I wish that the Big East would figure out a way to survive, and give the Big 12 the bird...

Well, they may not have a choice...if they want a BE team, it may be a package deal unless they want congressional involvement. The Big 12 deserves every bit of that after what they've attempted to do to A&M and Mizzou.

From the FWST: But in terms of financial implications for the Big 12, the difference between 10 and 11 members would be only a $1.5 million difference per year for each school based on projected TV revenues over the next six years.

I'm going to laugh if they REALLY can only take 10, and have to instead go with a CUSA or MWC team.

Big XII should follow Oklahoma columnist Berry Tramel's idea:

Add Notre Dame for all non-football sports;
Add BYU for Football only.

If Texas and OU weren't so awful with their preferences, they would add WVU, Louisville and that combo. Done. But nooooooo.

ya know, before this current stuff with nebraska, colorado and you guys i was operating on the opinion that the big 12, overall, was the second best conference to the sec. nebraska was making a comeback and so were you and okie lite and everything looked rosy.i have been proven so wrong so often that i now view that conference as an absolute joke. it appears that there was a void in leadership but with the dysfunctual behavior of some of the members it was probably both.

I believe he's a Democrat, so no I don't think he votes straight party line.

Agreed. I think that 12 team conference would actually survive. UT/OU with BCS auto bids and 10 other teams bending over and thanking them for the shut up money.

Actually I think he pretty much does, did the old run to the center, then get right in line trick.

Of course, the Senate hardly ever actually votes on anything so who knows?
