About time.

This should have occurred after Miami and Virginia Tech left.

The Big East is reaping what it has sown. All this 17 teams in basketball crap; football only members; kicking out Temple.

They should have long ago seperated into two conferences, with the football schools having their own conference. If they were already at 12 schools in all sports, they could have withstood the blow of losing two schools. Now they are in panic mode.

Big East Unlikely To Lose BSC AQ Status

Guess it just depends on who you read. They sure as hell don't deserve an AQ. The bowls themselves don't want their sorry arse teams costing them millions in revenue every year either.

When it comes to conference expansion, Clay Travis is the man. ESPN and SI have been consistently wrong at just about every turn.

Well, if you think Slive and his brethren are going to continue to watch 11-1/10-2 conference members sit home, while 8-4 unranked Big East teams get slaughtered in BCS bowls, you are wrong. Something will change.

I wouldn't be so sure...

LINK

...having posted that link I still want WVU to go to the SEC or ACC(not going to happen unless SEC raids ACC).

FWIW, WVU will be a contender for the national championship next year. It will be the same old Big East next year and we are replacing the LSU OOC game with a home/home with FSU. Next year we are in FSU (better chance to beat them than LSU). Combine that with a preseason top 15 ranking since Geno Smith will be a Senior and you have your 2012 darkhorse national championship contender.

Yes the Big East has sucked since Miami and VTech left (nevermind BC...just like nevermind Pitt and Cuse)...but so too has Miami and VTech struggled. And don't hold the Big East against WVU...afterall we have tried (and will continue to do so) to get a spot with the big boys.

That story is linked three posts above yours. It's one person's opinion. Also, it is not fact that ESPN was involved in the defections of Syracuse and Pitt. As Mike DeCourcy puts it, "what would be ESPN's motivation? To increase the costs of their ACC contract?"

A more plausable story is that the ACC layed out several expansion scenarios and some ESPN exec told them which one looked the best. That's a far cry from it being "engineered by ESPN."

Clay Travis is the man

Travis might be "the Man" but his argument concerning why the Big East keeps the AQB has major flaws.

No matter what ESPN's participation was in the ACC's "Rape and Pillage, Part II" of Big East, I seriously doubt that has any affect on the renewal of the BCS contract in 2013. If that's what the Big East is hanging their hat on, they're in deep trouble.

If there's a potential cause of action ripe for litigation, that would be the other conferences out there which don't have AQBs. Let the Big East become CUSA II and keep the AQB and watch the shite hit the fan.

When TCU is turning their nose up at you, things aren't going well.

I don't see how that league survives. After WVU, UConn is probably their next best property, and they are on record saying they want out (good fit in either the B1G or the ACC, IMO). Adding a bunch of service academies might make for a few interesting games, but it's not going to solve your lack-of-competitiveness issues--it's just going to turn you into the Patriot League. Basically, there's nothing out there that can save them and their auto-bid.

The number three team in the SEC is better than the winner of the Big East. Something has got to give in the BCS.

The SEC should take BE's autobid and get two.

As long as WVU anchors the BE it will be an AQ conference. Just because WVU had 3 down years under Stew, will not affect WVU going forward. It has 3 more years to rebuild its resume from a top 25 team, to a top 10 team.

Quoting:

As far as strength of the football members is concerned, Boise State would seem a must-have for the league. If the Broncos, who are currently No. 5 in the AP poll, became members, it would give the league at least two perennial Top 25 programs. West Virginia has been ranked in the AP Top 25 at some point every season since 2002 and in 20 of the last 24 seasons. Boise State has been ranked every season since 2002, including 48 weeks in the Top 10.

One school does not validate an entire conference and that one school isn't viewed as a traditional powerhouse except for WVU fans.

What could be ESPN's motivation? How about Notre Dame? Ara already made the public statement that conference realignment may force Notre Dame to affiliate their football program with a conference. If this were to happen what would the Irish Do?

Join the Big East to save it?
Join the ACC?
Join the Big1G?

Or does it really matter from an ESPN perspective?

The Big East wants Boise so it can use Boise's wins to jump up its record.

WVU doesn't fit into that conference. It's the only thing the B.E. has had going for it in football for a long time.

The mwc and conf usa will play an interleague championship. Maybe with the mac mixed in and the bid should go to them.

Funny, West Virginia slaughtered Oklahoma 48-28 in their BCS bowl. I didn't hear the same sentiment then?
