an already existing SEC state like Texas or Florida, or a non-SEC like North Carolina, would you be in favor of them joining the SEC?

their athletic program is complete and utter shite outside of football. And their academics are on the level of Southeastern.

We need to quit with the academic pretense. What we have here are semi-professional football teams, and I'll bet that from a TV marketing point of view, Boise State is many times more valuable than Vanderbilt.

vandy has been in the sec forever so they can stay. What does Boise bring to the SEC they don't already have? Boise has a small stadium a small tv market and an ugly arse blue field. Boise to the SEC makes 0 sense

Did you even bother to read my hypothetical question?

so you just saying Boise gets into a bigger city? Or if the city of Boise was stuck into another State? They wouldn't be the biggest team in any of those states. If they were in North Carolina the SEC would favor UNC. If they were in Texas the SEC only needs A&M or UT. Their fanbase would still be small and really bring nothing to the table.

People here don't understand the question. Certainly most people here would take the winninest college football program over the last 10 or 11 years into their conference.

If they joined the SEC would they be a power year in and year out and challenge for national championships probably not. In the long term Boise is going to suck again and they are going to be a mid major type team again. The SEC is already sending 2 teams to the bcs every year. (this has nothing to do with the hypothetical, answering poster above). I just don't see any positives Boise could give to the SEC. I'm not taking into account location and travel costs etc.

IF Boise was in an already existing SEC state, they would not attract the players that they get now and would face better competition. I would say their recruiting base is probably Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada and California leftovers. California has enough talent to go around, so consider their skill players to be a push if they were in the south, as they would still get decent prospects out of either FL or TX. If they were in the south they would be fighting with the rest of the Sun Belt and CUSA and Big East teams for leftovers in whatever state they were in and wouldn't do well in the surrounding states (non AQ teams don't do well going out of state into AL, GA, MS, LA, etc.). Also, consider the fact that they are the only real college football team within 500 miles of where they are. This contributes to a stronger fanbase. If they were in the southeast they would be somewhere between UAB and USF. Their location creates their strength in this case, with more competition in close proximity they would drop off the map, or really would not have been on the map to begin with.

At least when they rank LSU, it is on the national scale.

They don't even bother ranking Boise on that level, it is strictly regional.

If they were in a more populus state, they would attract a lot more eyeballs to SEC football and they would have a bigger fanbase. Hell, if Idaho had 15 million people with 3 million in Boise, the PAC-12 would have ignored their academics and invited them yesterday. Why did you think the PAC-12 invited Colorado and Utah? The PAC-10 didn't just get the Boulder TV market, they got Denver also. And you can't really be serious about North Carolina over Boise State. For one thing, if North Carolina was an option, that would have been done already, and with the ACC's new $20 million exit fee, that's even more unlikely in the future. For another, Boise State's football program is on another level than North Carolina, and in case you didn't notice all of the conference realignments are being driven by football.

LSU might not have the most stellar academic record, but we are a tier 1 school. It's a little bit more than being just "nationally ranked"

No chance. They're not good at any other sports, and they're academics are horrible. If there football fell off, which would be very possible, then they're nothing other than an annoying road trip.
