Hate the idea.

If I had to choose a team my pool would be:
FSU
GT
NC
VT
WVU

2010-2011 Capital One Cup

Men's

1. Florida
2. Virginia
3. Texas A&M

Women's

1. Stanford
2. Texas A&M
3. Florida

2010-2011 Director's Cup

1. Stanford
2. Ohio State
3. California
4. Florida
5. Duke
6. North Carolina
7. Virginia
8. Texas A&M
9. Florida State
10. Oklahoma

Clearly we don't add anything athletically.

I freaking love it. All along I wanted A&M, Mizzou, NC State and VT. The latter two are not going to budge, but half a loaf os better than none at all.

Not sure what that shite is, but anything wherein Virginia is ranked above your school is certainly not going to help your case.

How many people would be up for Virginia being in the SEC based on these results?

I've read things on this, if you want to call that research. I'm saying that in my personal opinion, that's how I would want it to shake out. Please read my post and understand it before you comment.

Thank you very little.

Missouri football has had some good seasons recently and their basketball team has been to the NCAA tournament the last three years.

I think they would be a solid addition to the west.

Missouri would be a damn strong fifth team in the western division behind LSU, Bama, A&M, and Arkansas.

I think people would take Virgina over WVU even without them raking high in the Capitol One Cup and Director's Cup.

and you haven't heard of those? Really?

I agree that A&M adds a ton to the conference, but I also agree that citing something that has UVA ranked so high can't possibly be a good way to try to prove your point.

in terms of money and geography a major school from north carolina and virginia would have been a coup for the SEC

But there really is no big time school from one of those states that can and should make the move

Those would be yearly rankings of athletic programs based on how every NCAA sport the school has finishes. Of the 2, Director's Cup is more accurate as Capital One Cup excludes some sports.

The majority of A&M's athletic programs had Top10 finishes last year, including 3 National Championships. We have 8 total since 2009. We are a Top10 Athletic Dept based on Director's Cup standings the last 2 seasons.

Clearly, we add nothing to the SEC athletically.

Strick, am I correct in assuming that AM regularly finishes ahead of Texas in these rankings?

We have the last 2 seasons, but you have to keep in mind that A&M's athletic programs as a whole have vastly improved ever since Byrne took over. For example, Men's BBall was HORRIBLE before like 2004, and now it's a regular Top25 program.

Last 4 years:
2007-2008 5.Texas 12.TexasA&M
2008-2009 6.Texas 13.TexasA&M
2009-2010 6.TexasA&M 15.Texas
2010-2011 8.TexasA&M 12.Texas

I didn't look before that, but the last 4 years Texas A&M has been one of the top 2 athletic departments in BigXII, being #1 the last 2.

Correction: I somehow overlooked OU finishing ahead of Texas the last 2 years at #12 ('09-'10) and #10 ('10-'11).

My ideal adds were: Texas AM, Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor to the west

Baylor? Texas Tech?

Fla State, Ga Tech, West Virginia and Virginia Tech in the east.

Va. Tech, with WVU a distant 2nd choice. The other two wouldn't add anything.

I'm just pissed, I really don't want Mizzou.

They're a hell of a lot better choice than Baylor or Texas Tech, and probably better than FSU or Ga. Tech.

Across all sports, A&M is as strong as pretty much anybody in the country. Of course, we all know football is the big one, though, so that's what they'll be judged on. The past few years haven't been that great for them, but they seem to be on the upswing and are having a good season this year.

Mizzou is clearly the best option available. Also, adding Missouri is preferable to staying at 13.

No one, including Mike Slive, gives two shits about tA&M's cross country or water polo championships. You were invited to this league because SEC wanted a football team from Texas and yours has more money than the other Texas schools (besides ut who SEC would have Obviously taken over you).

IMO, Mizzou makes more sense than Texas A&M. Mizzou has actually been competitive in recent years. I'm 32 yrs old and have no recollection of Aggies ever playing a big time football game. I have a vague memory of them playing in B12 champ but that had to be at least 15 yrs ago.

Mizzou was HORRIBLE before Pinkel got there. Historically, A&M is by far the better program (#20 vs #34) and is coming off the worst decade in history for football. Fortunately, we are on the upswing, and A&M has been very competitive both this year and last year.

Since 2009, we have 8 National Titles across Track & Field, Men's Golf, and Women's Basketball, and I guarantee Slive cares about that. Men's Basketball has been to the NCAA tourney the last 6 years and made at least the round of 32 5/6. Baseball won the BigXII the last 2 years and went to CWS last season. Football finished in Top25 last season, and will this season.

They also chose us because we bring 21 million TV sets, are the top research institution in either the BigXII or the SEC, and are an AAU member.

Mizzou makes sense for a lot of reasons, but they bring no where near what Texas A&M does. Try doing a little research.

Yeah, Slive must be really concerned about golf titles.

I like it-kinda biased though. Mizzou is a dry campus and it will take a while for the culture of the SEC and Mizzou to mesh in regards to game day. For example: From the Missourian publication

New tailgate lot opening for MU students on game days
Tuesday, August 24, 2010 | 7:33 p.m. CDT; updated 6:04 p.m. CDT, Sunday, September 12, 2010

"The agreement between the Missouri Students Association and the university to designate a student lot for tailgating, however, came with a number of conditions:

¦Reserved spaces are only available for student organizations.
¦Vehicles are not allowed in the lot.
¦The lot opens four hours before kickoff and will be closed at kickoff.
¦Everything must be cleared from the lot three hours after the game.
¦No glass, kegs, coolers over 70 quarts, hard alcohol, sharing of alcohol or excessive drinking are permitted."
