Check my post history and you will see it's not an excuse. I haven't ventured over there much lately.

Well there was the one thread with the guy from Jeff City.

Here's a list of Mizzou's record home crowds I got from the Book "Tales from the Missouri Tigers"

1. 75,298 Penn State Oct 4, 1980
2. 75,136 Texas Sept 29, 1979
3. 74,575 Nebraska Nov 3, 1979
4. 73,655 Alabama Sept 16, 1978
5. 72,348 Nebraska Oct 15, 1983
6. 72,333 Colorado Oct 18, 1980
7. 72,001 Nebraska Oct 24, 1981
8. 71,291 Oklahoma Nov 17, 1979
9. 71,096 Colorado Oct 28, 1979
10. 70,915 Notre Dame Sept 26, 1984

Copyright of the book is 2003 so I'm sure OU's game from 2010 and some other games are probably ranked in there.

I think OU game from '10 is in there and possibly the '08 or '09 Nebraska game (the year escapes me). But we really haven't hit those numbers lately because they took away seating in the 80's with the latest renovation, which was adding the current pressbox on the west side of the stadium and some south endzone bs.

I think it's time for donors (myself included) to pony up and get our stadium more up to date and have the seating necessary for SEC play, which I'm hoping is around 80,000.

For people with short memories, when USCe and Arky entered the conference they both had stadiums that needed a lot of upgrading as well.

Yep we upgraded from around 55K to around 75K after we had been in the league for 8 years. We are getting ready to do another upgrade in the next few years that will take us over 80K.

Though the seating capacity is listed at 71,004, crowds in excess of 75,000 have seen the Tigers play in Columbia – against Texas in 1979, and a record 75,298 against Penn State in 1980.

Mizzou packed in a modern-day record crowd of 71,004 on Oct. 24, 2009 against Texas – marking the largest crowd to see a game at Faurot Field since 1983.

Mizzou’s average attendance for six home games in 2008 was a stout 64,520, which was the highest season average since 1980, followed by an average of 64,120 in 2009.

From the Missouri official website.

That looks about right. 64,000 a game is probably right. Ole Miss has 60,000.

Our situation was totally different. We played 4 games a year in Little Rock, not Fayetteville, which has been 55,000 for a LONG time way before the SEC.

Yes, we are the only school to play in 2 stadiums inside our state today.

The main bowl looks only a little smaller than BDS was in Tuscaloosa 30 years ago and that held 64,000 ~ 65,000. I can see the upper extensions on each side adding 4000 each which would be about 70K

Faurot field does seat 70,000 with the hill and temperoary bleachers they put up in front of the hill and on top of it. The problem is how far from the field some of those seats are. The stadium has been in need of an upgrade/renovation for a while. It's something that was in the works already and from what I understand will happen sooner now that we are joining the SEC.

One of the first things that is going to have to be updated are the restrooms and concessions. From what I understand the SEC doesn't allow people to leave the stadium and re-enter. A lot of Mizzou fans go back out to the tailgates at halftime for more beer, a quick snack, and to use the restrooms out there.

Other than that they are planning on adding more suites and premium seating. Probably on the east side of the stadium. The waiting list for the suites is longer than we can currently fill. What else they are going to do I'm not sure but there are plenty of suggestion on Mizzou boards. Everything from raising the stands in the south endzone to meet those on the east and west, moving the hill forward so it is closer to the endzone, lowering the field to get more seats closer to the sideline, tearing down the east stands and rebuilding them closer with suites or even a second deck, and plenty of other suggestions. It will be interesting to see what they actually do.

I posted some of this on the other thread, but I think it bears repeating. A lot of folks look at these stadiums on TV now and assume that they were all purpose-built for football, but that is not the case. Missouri's sightlines really aren't any different from most SEC facilities.

If you go back and look at the history of SEC stadiums, you'd be surprised how many of them were originally built with tracks around the field.

In fact, although it didn't have a track, the stands at mid-field at Bryant-Denny are probably further from the field than similar seats at every other SEC facility.

Lowering the field to "bring seats closer" really means lowering it so that you can add rows between the current first row and the sideline--it does nothing to bring your existing seats closer. And, if lowering makes the angle worse, then you've made all your existing seats worse in the process. All those SEC stadiums above manage to make it without having seats right on top fo the sidelines.

Having actually been to a game at Faurot Field, I think that Missouri has a good enough foundation in place, and with minor adjustments, it will work fine as an SEC facility. Missouri should probably get rid of the hill seats--you can't really sell those as season tickets, and season tickets are how you sell out games (or get decent reported attendance) against Louisiana directional schools. Nobody will buy those tickets if they don't have to, so you don't want to have a lot of excess capacity--that depresses season ticket sales. Those hill seats are just like the seats in the old horsehoe at Kyle Field prior to the 1998 renovation--you'd be better off getting rid of them because you will never sell them as season tickets.

The problem is counting seating on the hill is a little dicey. That being said this is our top 10 attendance records.

All-Time Largest Crowds

1. 75,298, vs. Penn State, Oct. 4, 1980

2. 75,136, vs. Texas, Sept. 29, 1979

3. 74,575, vs. Nebraska, Nov. 3, 1979

4. 73,655, vs. Alabama, Sept. 16, 1978

5. 72,348, vs. Nebraska, Oct. 15, 1983

6. 72,333, vs. Colorado, Oct. 18, 1980

7. 72,001, vs. Nebraska, Oct. 24, 1981

8. 71,291, vs. Oklahoma, Nov. 17, 1979

9. 71,096, vs. Colorado, Oct. 28, 1978

T-10. 71,004, vs. Texas, Oct. 24, 2009

71,004 vs. Oklahoma, Oct. 23, 2010

71,004 vs. Iowa State, Oct. 15, 2011

What is shocking to many outside the SEC when they start looking closer is that Kentucky outdraws Mizzou for football. Kentucky would be 4th in attendance for the remaining 2011 Big 12, behind only UT, A&M and OU.

KY has nicer overall football facilities than Mizzou from what I can tell online.

Most people not familiar with the SEC would never guess that to be the case, as UK is dismissed as a "basketball school".

It will be a shock to both A&M and Mizzou fans who make the trips to most SEC campuses.

The baseball stadiums will really blow people away, too.

Yeah well even before the construction of our South upper deck in 1997 Williams-Brice still seated 72,400. Like Arky and most the SEC SC hasn't stopped upgrading. SC will get a new videoboard (hopefully as soon as 2012, if not certainly by 2013) that will make what we have now, 10th largest in the SEC, to 3rd largest. Not to mention construction of an entire "Athletic Horseshoe" filled with a top of the line academic center and other athletic facilities.

Point is I've never been to Mizzou, so I have no idea what the facilities they have are actually like or how up to date they are or how much the Mizzou fan base stresses importance of those facilities but if its only a sub-par interest Mizzou is going to fall way behind.

For those of us in Missouri who grew up as KC Chiefs fans, we will not be shell shocked. Arrowhead is the loudest stadium in the NFL. And the KC fans know how to tailgate. I cannot wait to see that level of energy in college football.

True. I'm sure most Mizzou fans been to Arrowhead. I can remember announcers comparing Arrowhead to LSU's Tiger Stadium in regard to the noise level, that always made me happy.

As a former KC Chiefs season ticket holder for 15 years......amen to that! Arrowhead is definitely as loud as LSU. No doubt. I have been to several games at LSU since the move from KC to BR.

I've been to Mizzou games many times (not since renovations). I have watched several games while sitting on the "M" due to sell outs. Also been to games at Vandy, TN and aTm.

Mizzou's Faurot Field is no slouch in attendance or atmosphere and is as nice as any SEC stadium I have been in.
