....and then there's the other side of the coin:

quote:

Eberflus was often criticized for the Missouri’s defense the last couple of seasons, but the year the Tigers won the Cotton Bowl, I thought Eberflus did a good job of simplifying the defense after the non-conference schedule and as the season went on, that defense became much more improved.

Heading into last season, there were even higher expectations placed on the defense, but in retrospect, the defensive personnel we not as good as the year before. With Lorenzo Williams off that defensive line, Stryker Sulak was the only linemen who put consistent pressure on the quarterback and he was undersized for DE. The DBs were then exposed and they didn’t get enough help from William Moore at safety because he was hobbled by injuries.

He wasn't good at Missouri and wasn't the DC at Dallas. He has proven to be a very solid LB coach, but what else has he proven?

84, 81, 38, 23, 81, 33, 37, 29, 59

Those are his scoring defense ranks at Missouri. They were happy to see him go. The year after he left, they vaulted to the #6 scoring defense in the country.

Not saying he's a "bad" hire, but he is far from a home run.

Missouri talent in the Big 12 v. LSU talent in the SEC.

Not saying he's a home run, but it bears mentioning

He's playing worse competition in the Big 12. It evens out.

Also, the year after he left, they jump to #6 scoring defense with similar personnel. That has to scare you. Missouri fans were happy to see him leave apparently.

Are you saying that the Big 12 doesn't have good offenses?

They didn't have Baylor and TCU scoring 60 points a game while he was there.

His scoring defensive rankings are not good no matter how you slice it.

I am not sure this would be a home run hire, but I think he would have potential to be good. He had experience with recruiting and with running a major college defense. He also has NFL experience which is what a lot of these young recruits like to see. Hopefully, he gained some great knowledge spending the last 4 years in the NFL.

I don't love him being a Kiffin disciple, not a huge fan of the tampa 2 in CFB.

What about Steckel? I know nothing about him but if he turned the D into #6 ranked unit the next year....

Steckel just took the HC job at Missouri State.

If we promote Haley and don't get Orgeron, Mizzou's DL coach has done incredible with the low-rated talent he's been given. Worth looking into
