This is almost like the Texas deal for Mack - for comparison sakes. Gets whipped by OU often , sometimes embarrassed by Tech or A&M but won it once and will play for another soon.

except this isn't true. Texas is 4-1 the last 5 years vs OU and 4-1 the last 5 against TT. The one loss to TT was last year on the last play when TT was a top 5 team. They did lose 2 in a row to A&M. 1 of those was when McCoy got hurt early. The other was 07 when UT wasn't all that great.

Mack also had a great run at UNC. His last 2 years there they only lost 3 games. They have lost no less than 5 every year since he left for Texas.

Pretty much. Look, I'm not kidding myself, I'm not completely happy with everything, with where we are right now, but I'm eternally hopeful. Our coaches are who they are, for good or worse (RIP ODB). I don't see why screaming for anyone's head does any good.

Jeez, no one can win in the SEC with a true Soph at QB. Hell no Soph QB could except to to do anything in the SEC. right? Plus we are breaking in new coaches. Now one can do anything with new coordinators right?

:sigh: No, you're right, and I get it. You'd think we'd be in a better position, but teams can struggle due to a lot of variables. Just look at USC or Oklahoma this year. I think stability is better for the program. If Miles left, I wouldn't shed a tear, but if he's here, I'll do my best as a fan to support him and his staff. It seems too many think we're about to become bottom feeders. I don't believe that.

After we stop with the sarcasm and hyperbole

It sounds like we are pretty much on the same page and of course I will always support the team I'd love to be proven wrong and Les gets us back to that 05-07 level.

USC had 7 strait top 4 finishes. OU this year was devastated by injuries and played a brutal schedule. They lost close OOC games away from home to top top 20 teams Miami and BYU with out their QB. . Thats more understandable than needing a miracle to win at home over Troy or struggling with La Tech.

Having a star QB get hurt during the year is very different from kicking a guy off before the summer. OU had a similar situation with Bomar in 2006. He got kicked off the team in hte summer and they had to lpay a guy at QB that they had converted to WR, and they still won the Big 12. Granted its not as hard as winning the SEC, but come on, 3-5?

with the talent and facilities we have, I do not see us returning to the Archer/Hallman era. 1 losing season should get a coach fired at LSU now unless there was some extraordinary circumstance. What I fear is we settle into 9-3,8-4 land, where the Cap 1 and Cotton bowl become what we are shooting for and the BCS is some where we dream about getting to.

I think you will find that almost all of us are on at least 90% of the same page. We are splitting hairs on the remaining 10% and on what can and should be done.

Miles has won us a title and is here to stay for the next foreseeable few years. He, like any other coach, has his faults but he is not an idiot. He is also a great recruiter and has made some good hires and changes.

The Administration has now tasted NC titles on a regular basis and knows the value of winning and what it means to the school and more importantly the revenue stream. They are not going to let sentimentality/laziness stop them from making business decisions. If Miles is not going to be keeping us at the top level on a consistent basis then I am sure they will make the necessary changes.

Some folks feel that the last two seasons are not representative of the coach who brought us the title and some folks feel that the exact opposite - there in lies the crux of the discussions for the remaining 10%

the improvement from last season?

we're not THAT improved. we just had an easier road this year. we played 2 elite teams and average-shite teams

and we struggled to beat a good # of those average-shite teams

is Chavis leaves it will put more heat on Miles, and the hire needs to be a home run. Crowton leaving would've been easier on him.

+1... remember that Miles's playing background is
Offensive Lineman....so he SHOULD know more offense than Defense ???????

Oh my god! I just saw that interview and this one interview alone tilts the balance against his entire career record, wins, bowl performances, Conference Championships and National Title.

Thanks Met

I will never understand why people automatically equate public speaking skills and verbal eloquence with intelligence. Especially since we are, after all, talking about coaching football and not rocket surgery or brain science. (please turn off sarcasm filter before responding to the last sentence of this post).
