Matt Canada looks like a good OC based on his success, however when someone gets fired, it raises a red flag. Anyone know why?

Nobody on this board has a clue, but they're happy to tell you its the end all be all.

NCSU's offense struggled in his final year there, but they got worse the following season, so that adds a little intrigue to the situation. Was it him or did the issues go deeper than just the OC. We are pretty familiar with the latter.

The Wolfpack offense sputtered in some of its biggest games and Canada had a tendency to underutilize his best players.

N.C. State was held to 13 points in critical ACC losses to Louisville and Virginia Tech early in October when running back Matt Dayes was still healthy.

Sophomore running back Jaylen Samuels ran for two touchdowns in the bowl loss but only had three carries in the game. Samuels, who led the team with 16 touchdowns, was on the field for only 31 snaps in the 20-13 loss to Louisville on Oct. 3. He finished that game with five catches for 75 yards, and a touchdown, but no rushing attempts.

It is curious that Dave Doeren, NC St HC, was the person who fired Canada. Doeren was Canada's HC at Northern Illinois. Doeren then hired Canada to join him after he left for NC St.

Pure speculation, but maybe it was something personal. Canada said later in an interview that the firing came as a surprise.

It doesn't matter. He was a finalist for some damn award. That's all everyone is thinking about.

It's okay, it fits right in with LSU's new "second chance" club.

Thanks, great info. Sounds familiar, though. I still wonder why Deion Jones and Duke Riley didn't play more as underclassmen, not to mention Russell Gage who was non-existent until Orgeron took over.

Doeren has never been on solid ground at NC State to begin with.

The nerve of you to ask such a question

You should know you're only allowed to bring up 2016 when discussing Canada.

Could be. I still think it was change for the sake of change though. I believe Doeren would've been fired had he lost the UNC game and missed a bowl this season.

[quote]Why in the world did N.C. State fire him after he directed the third-best offense in the ACC last season? If Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren doesn’t make that curious move, a year after Canada signed a three-year extension, Pitt’s offense would still be stuck in the B.C. era.

Pitt’s points-per-game average jumped 58 spots in the national rankings this season; N.C. State’s dropped 46.

Why was this man fired?

“I don’t have an answer for that,” Canada said. “I truly don’t.”

I wondered if he was stunned by the move.

“Yes, I was,” he said. “I have to be careful here. … I was surprised. Obviously, it was supposed to happen. I love coaching the guys we’re coaching now. I love [coach Pat Narduzzi]. [N.C. State] wanted to do something different. They obviously did. We’re where we are.”

Friend of mine from NC says it was a job saving move by the HC. He is on the hot seat. Saved his job by beating Tar Heels this season
