Okay so there appears to be three factions

1) Herman for HC
2)Jimbo for HC
3) O for HC

Let's say 1 or 2 happens what do you offer coach O to convince him to stay? I imagine offering him DL coach again would probably be a bit insulting.

Thoughts?

And a hunting lease on the best land in the state or house on the best water in the state and free Red Bull for life.

But not head coach.

If not HC...he will not stay. If he finishes well give him the job and hire a great OC and whip some arse.

You all need to accept that coach is more than likely not going to be on the staff next year.

Well that's why I asked the question. He probably won't be on the staff, but he is a great coach, and recruiter no question. Maybe just not HC.

You want to keep him. So how far do you go to alleviate the perceived demotion, and try to convince him to stay?

The thing that i really like about coach O is he is letting the people hired coach their positions. If he does well down the stretch say maybe one loss or two close loses with a subpar offensive cordinator. Then he hires a top notch OC and lets him run the offense without any interference and keeps the staff minus BDP. I'm not opposed to say a two years deal to see how it works out. Why break the bank when only few piece of the team was broken HC/OC? We have the rest of the season to judge so that is good

Simply offer him more money and make up whatever crazy title you want, its all about the money and what you want to pay to keep him

The only issue there is that we already have Aranda as an Associate HC (assuming the new HC keeps him). Can you have three coaches with "head coach" in their title? I say DL coach and Rec coordinator with a healthy raise. But if we do really well and he's not retained, I think someone will finally offer him HC or he's probably gone anyway because of disappointment.

Can't resolve this without someone having their feelings hurt. Everyone here would love for Coach O to stay aboard but it sounds like he expects to be considered for the HC job. It's probably HC or he's out.

He's one of the nation's best recruiters but that is a skill that can be approximated by a number of other assistants. I'd hope he could swallow his ego and remain on the staff but don't foresee it.

Would be really bad for recruiting. Whoever gets the job needs at least a 4 year deal. You can't walk into a recruit's living room and tell their mom you'll take care of their baby for the next 4 years if you only have a two year deal.

how can people say this without actually knowing this?

the man was not working prior to last year. Living in Mandeville, watching his 2 sons play at Mandeville high.

While I can possibly see him not returning in any capacity if not offered the HC job, I can also see him staying put because it keeps him at his dream job school, in the same state where his 2 sons are now playing college football.

I've spoken to the man before at the gym many times. He has a passion for Louisiana in general obviously, and he's passionate about LSU.

Even his cousin Bobby has stated, and no, he does not know for sure, but he's being realistic when he says O should get an interview if he does well. But he also has to understand that with what LSU fans and admins have seen lately, we almost have to go in the direction of an offensive minded coach.

Give him an interview, tell him we have a desire to go in an offensive minded coaches direction, offer him DL coach, assistant head coach, recruiting coordinator, and a raise, and make him say no to coaching while still only a few miles from his 2 sons.

Point being, no one knows........but, we'll find out.

Why does this have to be the stand of why Coach O shouldnt be hired? The man stats that he is letting the coaches do their parts. We spend some money on a Top OC and Coach O lets this Guy implement his offense and keeps his hands off. Keep other Coaches minus BDP and i believe we have something. All this doesnt matter because Coach O has to prove he can beat some of the Teams Les had trouble with: ala,Miss, Ark. If he goes 2-1 against those teams with a make shift OC then i think he should be seriously looked at as the next LSU HC. If not the coaching search continues. Win ! Win!

was an opinion of bobby's....who son played there. just an opinion that he COULD UNDERSTAND why the lsu administration would want to go the way of an offensive minded coach.

The people who want option 3 with option 1 and 2 on the table have got to be the stupidest people I've seen on this board. Coach O is good at recruiting and motivating people, give him a recruiting coordinator type job along with DL coach.

because this is just how these things typically work out in the end

how many interim HCs returned back to their original position once a new HC was hired?

I can't think of any

O might be different since he actually wants to live here, but it is hard for me to see it, especially if O is successful this year
