This! No one saw Les Miles coming to LSU just like no one saw Nick Saban coming to LSU.
I took so much crap from co-workers over LSU paying Saban $1.6M to lure him to Baton Rouge.

I recall the thing that most folks were worried about was that Miles would bring his DC, Bill Clay. He ran a 3-3-5 or something different than what we had run and loved under Saban.

I personally thought he wouldn't last 4 years.
And then Katrina hit, and his entire first season was an amazing triumph considering the obstacles he faced. After week 2 of the season I was confident he was the perfect guy to follow Saban and represent LSU.

I knew him from the 'will play any sucker in the country' video clip that went somewhat viral. That's about it. In hindsight, he was a good hire.

the narrative was "well, he beat stoops a few times"
yep, most were afraid of the unknown but the positigers held on to this

He had school record breaking offenses in 2001 and 2003 but keep on with the narrative.
But there was the 10 pts against UAB. The biggest win in that programs history. And the embarrassing 31-0 loss to bama at home. 2001 was great with rohan, 2003 9 points against a bad UF team. Which would have kept us out of the title game if cal hadn't slipped by USC.

But he didn't. He brought in pelini that prob should have been given the Nebraska job. They shouldn't have fired solich, but he was better than Callahan.

sad thing is....the people that hated the hire in January 2005 still hated hated him after January 7th, 2007

I really think most of the hatred comes from that Monday night Tennessee game. Many decided they hated him that night, and have never let it go.

Which goes to show you, pretty much any decent coach could come Into this program and be very successful. The program sells itself and changing coaches would not be the debacle that most of the chicken littles fear.

+1 Never liked him since.

I didnt know who he was, but he came in with similar credentials as Saban did. Moderate success at a little brother school. We hoped that he'd be able to do the same thing Saban did, given more to work with than he had at Ok St.
Also had a friend at the time who was an Oklahoma State grad. He didnt seem too upset they were losing Miles, and was excited about OkSt being able to hire a new coach.
