Butch Davis

... if Jimbo and Herman fall through, anyone know if Davis is still available?

You'd guarantee excellent grades for the student-athletes if he's hired!

Jimbo would have totally said no by now, or agreed to an extension with FSU. He's made nothing but vague comments like "I plan on being here..." and left it at that. Why didn't he just finish the sentence with "many more years?"

It's because he is seriously considering LSU and doesn't want to say anything and have a sound bite where FSU people can call him a liar.

If the next HC of LSU is not Herman or Fisher, Alleva should be fired immediately. By firing Miles 4 games into the season, they should have a coach in waiting already.

Wrong...by firing Miles when he did, he put LSU in a position to attempt to accomplish something THIS season.

Alleva tried to fire his arse last year, but it fell apart. When he was proven to be correct all along he got rid of that bastard the first chance he got.

When Miles was fired:

1- the sec West was still in our grasp
2- a playoff berth was still alive
3- a NY6 bowl was still on the table.

There was zero chance to accomplish any of the above with Miles.

Every other possible coaching candidate was coaching a team when Miles was fired. Its not until this time that getting a new coach can start to really grow legs. I am certain Alleva didn't just sit on his hands until this point, but there isn't a whole lot he could have done.

I could see Fedora at Florida in a couple years.

Christ, if we end up with Fedora or Holgorsen after all of this...so much for LSU being a Top 5 job. This can't be a "we settled for X or Y hire". Besides, Fedora would likely jump ship as soon as Sumlin is gone and Dana was halfway out of the door at WVA before he pulled this year out of his arse.

Miles needed to be fired regardless. Jimbo would be coaching LSU this year if politics and emotion didn't frick it up.

If Jimbo declines and LSU hires Fedora, it's still for the greater good and I personally would not see it as a failure. On the other hand, Alleva's legacy will be attached to Fedora.

Anyone besides a few numbnuts on this board would hire Jimbo in a heartbeat. If Jimbo comes to LSU and doesn't meet expectations, then it just it was it is.

But I've already staked my rep and offered wagers that if Jimbo comes to LSU and stays 10 years, LSU will be in the playoffs at least 3 seasons.

Butch Davis is the one who made UNC relevant.

He never won more than 8 games there and he got canned after they got hammered with probation. So relevant.

If you want to call putting a program on probation and allocating wins making them relevant.

Well yeah, but hindsight. You keep Miles and throw fuel on the fire and watch it burn? Or do you try to hope someone else can fix it in a near miracle turn around?

Fedora is so meh

Usm actually won like 9 games two seasons before him and he was very meh until one good season which still included multiple losses

Then he goes to unc and has meh seasons until finally one good season which again is multiple losses

Just so meh

I would take O every day over Fedora and I would a hate coach O hire.

Fedora would fricking end thus program. One of the worst recruiters in the power conferences. LSU would have to really cheat to close the border with him.
