Would be an absolute home run.

Wow. Would be a bit of a downgrade for him imo with what he's built at GSU

Well Tulane could probably triple his salary, it's a better conference, and it's not like he has long established building at GSU it only his 2nd year there.

He makes 400-500K, Tulane will probably give him 1.5 mill. You tell me if that's a downgrade

Very impressed with some of the names the Tulane AD is throwing out there.

He didn't excite me much. Antiquated offense (we've had a decade of antiquated offense). Ga Sou got decidedly worse this year.

He's only run the triple option at GSU. For 2 years.

Before that he was Spread option I think at SHSU. From what I read he's actually a defense guy that is willing to adapt his offense to the players he has.

I was just surprised they were interested in a 55 yr old coach with literally no experience at major college level.

I concur, would be a home run hire. For some reason of morbid curiosity, I followed Tulane this season, they had a pretty respectable defense and an absolutely putrid offense. The triple option would actually be a good fit for Tulane's current roster.

I also noticed that they have only 1 player on the roster from Texas, a transfer kicker....Fritz's Tx ties could help bolster the talent level. You are 4 hours from the TX border and 1 damn player from a traditionally talent rich state, amazing.

Yeah he would not run the triple at Tulane. The only time he's ever run that option is the past two years at GSU.

What is more important to Tulane fans, Winning more games than you lose with an ugly option or losing more games than you win but having a flashy offense?

I don't think the guy would run the 3op at Tulane but I am pretty sure anyone would pick winning over losing other than most Tulane fans.

Moronic post. Ever heard of the spread? Pretty easy install and there's plenty of coaches that know it. Tulane's roster is perfect for a zone-read / spread offense.

You didn't answer the question but it is clear what you would pick. It was a scenario question to spark conversation, something you obviously have a hard time doing on a message board.

Clearly would rather the option offense it if meant winning more games. Stupid question. Come on. This is a coaching search thread

I think the best fit for Tulane is an offensive guru that runs the spread. Gotta score points.

This is a Tommy Bowden hire. He will win quickly and be gone. But if Sam Houston on the lower level is any indication, he will not leave the program in a mess. He set that program up for long-term success.

In the last 4 years Fritz has averaged almost 40 a game, 37.5 the last two years with the triple option.

Not wanting to fight with you, just want more facts on the table than perceptions and fiction.

I think Tulane would thrive in a more wide open offense but hell, everyone in the country would improve scoring doing that.

Ga Tech and Navy do pretty damn good.

Exactly. Tulane needs to hire the guy that will win 2-3 years in a row and leave and then hire the next guy that will do it. You worry about a long term hire after you have sustained success for a decade plus. Maybe you get lucky along the way and guy wants to stay a long time but who cares if a guys stays long or not as long as you keep winning. Once coaches see they can succeed at Tulane they know it is a good bridge to the next higher paying job and that is a good thing.

That's what he ran at Sam Houston. He wouldn't run the triple at Tulane. The only time he's ever run the Triple was the past two years of his career because that's what GSU was built for. Tulane isn't built for that and he wouldn't run it.

And I agree with those that say that Tulane needs to embrace being a stepping stone job. Get a guy that will set up for success and be there 3 years and move on to a better job. Then hire the next guy that will continue the success for 2-3 years before he moves on to a better job. Eventually you will have sustained success and a guy will stay there longer.
