Sorry, I lived in Dallas a while and thought everyone knew about JJ. I copied this from Wikipedia for you:

quote:

Jones was born in Los Angeles, California. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to North Little Rock, Arkansas. He was a star running back at North Little Rock High School and eventually received a scholarship to play guard at the University of Arkansas. Among his Arkansas teammates were Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer, both of whom he would later hire to coach the Cowboys. While at Arkansas, Jones was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Just updating the flow of information as I see it. Again, take it all with a grain of salt until something is signed either way.

From Phillip Marshall of The Huntsville Times timestamped this morning at about 8:45:

quote:

Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville was sitting on a deer stand in rural Arkansas early this morning. Cell phones, of course, work even in deer stands if they're not too far out in the sticks.

Tuberville, who will be back in Auburn around lunchtime today, said he was incredulous when he learned after emerging from the woods Thursday night of the reports flooding out of Arkansas that he was on the verge of agreeing to become the Razorbacks' coach.

Tuberville didn't want to be quoted, but he had some strong words for those responsible for those reports. Neither he nor his agent, Jimmy Sexton, Tuberville said, has had any contact at all with Arkansas officials about the job vacated by Houston Nutt.

By the way, he and assistants Eddie Gran and Steve Ensminger were planning to hunt ducks but ended up hunting deer. Gran bagged a deer. The other two have struck out so far.

There is a big cover-up happening now... it's getting pretty funny around here. They should know by now that they can't keep things under wraps like they used to be able to do.

As I said, I'm just posting what I see coming out from the Auburn beat writers. I really don't know what will happen, and (unlike some schools/fans) I'm not hung up on a coach. I'm a fan of my alma mater, not the man being paid millions to coach the football team.

The one thing that does make me laugh is the Bama fans who alternately claim Tuberville is a mediocre coach who is about to be fired by Auburn because he'll never win anything and then in the next breath claim he is a hot commodity who is going to be hired by (over the years) Texas A&M, Miami, the Cowboys, the Falcons, Arkansas, etc.

Wait a sec. How does he "emerge from the woods" to find all of this out, yet cell phones still work on deer stands.

bullshite! He absolutely knows whats going on.

Oh I know... same here.

I think he is going to jump at the better offer. I think he wants more out of Auburn. If they don't pony up, he goes to Arkansas.

Of course he does... he doesn't want to be quoted either?

I think he wants out of Auburn pretty badly, and he is friendly with the right crowd at Arkansas that can handle his buyout. Man, Arkansas vs. Ole Miss next year is going to be interesting.

As I read this, wjox out of Birmingham was reciting it word for word. They're really getting a kick out of all the Tubby to Arkansas and Saban to LSU rumors.

That guy is pretty much a Tubby mouth piece that will put whatever Tubby wants Auburn people to believe in the press. Tubby is going to Arkansas.

IF the Jerry Jones involvement is true, he better not be playing... that's all I'm going to say about that.

I'm not going to disagree with you on that.

I guess it is because I'm just an average workign stiff, but I have a hard time believing that the difference in nearly $3 million/year (current Auburn contact) and $3.5 million/year (rumored Ark contract) really makes that much of a difference to someone making almost $3 million a year.

I can understand if there is a sticking point on facilities, as that would impact recruiting. I can also understand, somewhat, if it deals with assistant contracts. But at the same time, unless the assistants are represented by Sexton as well I would think holding both schools over a barrel (which in reality he is doing), just for the assistant coaches who may leave for head coaching jobs in the near future, is a little assinine.

All those guys are old friends. This was probably done a long time before Nutt got canned.

There is not enough money in the world to make up for what Auburn tried to do to Tubby in Jetgate. He would not have to worry about such things in Arkansas.

Maybe so... I guess we'll see.

I DO know the Ole Miss deal was in the works awhile before it was official and Sexton denied it all up until the day it broke.

I think all these details were probably worked out in October.

I understand that. Believe me, I was still enrolled at AU when that happened, and you wouldn't believe the firestorms that errupted on that campus.

Maybe I should have been a bit more clear in that post above, but a lot of people are saying that CTT will give AU one more chance to meet all of his demands, one of which includes salary for himself.

If that is the case, I don't see how three quarters of a million would make much difference - but then again making half a million a year sounds good to me.

An extra three million a year wouldn't make working for Lowder any better, imho.
