No... supposedly TT wanted a lot more than we were willing to offer. I suspect we offered him that money and he asked for more and I don't blame them for not ponying more dough.

Butch wasn't going to leave NC after one year.

I don't know what's going on or what they're thinking but I guess we'll see.

Here's a more interesting question. Why would Bowden voluntarily leave Clemson? He has a better program so Arkansas would seem to be a step down. I would not be excited at all about this hire but, hey, you will get to keep your DC!

What balance? He's been on the hot seat almost every year at Clemson. I also don't see him being an upgrade from Nutt. It sounds like Arkansas had the normal delusions of grandeur and forced Nutt out with the EXPECTATION that coaches like Tubberville would be beating the door down. I suspect they offered Butch Davis the job and he turned them down in favor of NORTH CAROLINA. I think Bowden is on the run like Nutt to be honest! You would probably be better off with his brother Tater tot.

I tend to agree but a good staff (coordinators) can make any Head Coach look good. Arkansas definitely has the money to assemble a good staff.

Well let me put it this way... I hope he assembles a good staff. One thing he can do is recruit (or so I hear) and he DOES have more balance and I mean passing/running.

I'll be willing to see it through. I'm not necessarily excited but you never know. I'm not gonna have a meltdown over it.

He recruits well on the east coast. Something tells me that he will have a harder sell getting those guy to Arkansas and I also don't see him locking down the state.

Bowden has been on thin ice at CU for several years. They were a heavy favorite to win that division this year, and they choked badly in a couple of games, most notably the Georgia Tech game.

I think Bowden (if he is going) would be willing to jump ship this year when there is another good program offering him a job. If he stayed one more year at CU and got axed, there might not be near as many possible landing spots.

pioneer -- next year's schedule is not easy either especially with what we are losing... IF he ends up being the new coach, he does NOT have an easy job ahead of him

This is a really crappy hire if it goes down. It would appear that Long (Our AD) and TB coached together at one point. Davis has been offered and declined, and Tubby demanded more money than some of the PTB were willing to accept.

Our new AD needed to harness our alums such JJohnson, JJones, BSwitzer, add in a sprinkle of mega-bucks from Tyson, JBHunt, Waltons, etc and hire a MAJOR HC...no matter the cost. Frankly, this EXACTLY what many of us expected. Here we are with a choice between ACC's version of Nutt, and a coach 2 yrs-removed from High School(Malzahn.)
This is what is being discussed in Arkansas tonite

All of this Fire Nutt hoohah to hire freakin' Tommy Bowden.

No matter how you slice it, for Arkansas, Tommy Bowden is a very poor choice

Not sure how anyone could say Clemson was "heavy favorites to win that division..."

Most preseason mags had Clemson pegged anywhere from 3rd to 5th place in their division. They lost 4 starting offensive linemen to graduation and broke in a new QB. They lost a 1st round draft pick DL and their entire secondary.

FSU was picked by most publications, pretty much based upon name. BC was picked high as well b/c of Ryan and having 18 starters returning. Wake was even picked ahead of Clemson in most preseason mags b/c of last year's championship and returning players.
