Can some one explain why bama gave NS a second extension this year. I guess losing to Auburn warrants a raise?

By the way please pass this along,

There is a job opening in Austin, TX.

He didn't get two extensions this year.

His last extension was in March 2012.

Pretty sure BamaChick is incorrect on this. The simple answer is because the market rate changed.

so what warranted the second extension "market rate"?

Either rumors that Texas was offering Saban more money than his then current contract, an actual offer that was more than his then current contract, or it was Alabama making a preemptive deal because they knew the Texas job was about to become available. Depends on who or what you believe. It was one of those scenarios though.

Correct, Sexton used this job opening as an excuse to get Saban a raise he deserved because of what ATM did with Sumlin. He received over 5 million to finish third in the west two consecutive years. Saban deserved The raise. In essence ATM in a way started this deal with raises. Look for a couple of other coaches to take advantage as well. Should Sumlin make more money than Miles or Malzahn?

Last extension in March of 2012. Since then he won a BCS championship, an SEC championship, lost only two games, and is headed to another BCS bowl. Winning would put Alabama at number 2 nationally behind the winner of the BCS game.

So suck it.

Previous to the extension agreed upon Friday, Saban's last contract extension and raise was in March of 2012.

Between the two, he won an SEC championship, a national championship, 20+ games, and brought in another #1 recruiting class.

The interest from Texas put the deal on the table obviously, but there were plenty of on the field results to make the deal worthwhile.

...and is almost a lock for another #1 class

The interest Saban supposedly had was all Tejas regents running off at the mouth

This is what I was getting mixed up with. It was just tacking on his bonus though.

The market rate angle is my favorite. "The market" is apparently being set by one school. Lol

And according to bama, winning 1 sec title in the past 4 seasons is worth a $2M raise - for a coach who was already highest paid. Lil Nicky has played bama like a fiddle.

The market was also inflated by AU giving a first year coach a large raise and A&M giving a second year coach - without even a divisional title to his credit - a $5 million salary.

That's just in the same division as Alabama.

But those facts get in the way, don't they?

Sumlin getting paid the same amount as Saban. There's no way a coach with four national championships doesn't deserve more than a coach who's never won the division they're both in.

LSU will have the #1 class when it's all said and done.
