Bump because the Coaching Changes Board is getting incredibly muddled with LSU threads about a coaching position that isn't even open.

All the Herman fans will probably be cheering against Houston this weekend so their regular seasons ends quicker.

Apparently the plane went to Houston and to Dallas (where the search firm is located). Discussions are clearly occurring with Herman. It is just completely unknown where they are at this time.

For the South Carolina fans, how long/patient will you be with a new coach? How long will it take to get the program back on track?

Wish you the best of luck in your search.

Quite patient. Immediately, it's important for the new staff to hold on to what's left of this class, and anything that can be added from there is gravy. There are some decommits that would be great to get back inthe fold, but no telling what's possible. I think a return to bowl eligibility next year is the goal, and we'll go from there. Most of us think that there was some opportunity squandered the last few years due to lackluster coaching and leadership. We're really just looking for solid improvement right now. Ideally, a new coach would have USC challenging for the East by year 2/3.

Difficult to answer, because it's genuinely unknown how much talent is on the roster. I think there's a lot of solid athletes on defense, but they've been wholly undeveloped and coached by one of the worst staffs in P5. USC needs a new S&C program the worst in the world. And it needs genuine, legitimate hard-working leadership desperately. If a new coach is able to lead and challenge, I think some senior leadership in Cooper and Moore can really pay dividends.

On offense, there's raw talent at WR and QB, but the o-line and tailbacks are huge question marks.

This isn't a complete gut job. But there are some issues of laziness and entitlement that have trickled down from Spurrier, Jr, Ward, Adams. New coach must set an example on day one that work, and only work, will lead to success.

3 years

1 year.

I don't think the talent is that awful on the team. We have some bad evaluations, like anybody else, but I think we have a decent amount of talent, and a lot of that talent is still young. If we bring in some actual coaches, they will be able to get more out of the talent we have. We won't have a good recruiting class until '17, this year we will be lucky to sign 25 guys.

We're going to need to get a HC and staff in here to change the psychology of what the guys on the team currently have. Right now, we have coaches who don't give a shite b/c they know they're about to be fired and players who are frustrated by a lack of leadership.

We'll have more experienced QB play next year and more experience at DB, and an awful DL & DB coach (DC's sucked too); those were our weaknesses this year. IF Moore and Cooper stick around another year, we'll have a shot at competing in the SECEast race again, as long as we get a top tier coaching staff.

I wouldn't expect to win the SECEast next year, but we'll be competitive.

Highly unlikely, especially given what has apparently happened with Skai Moore and the funeral thing.

I haven't been paying enough attention but saw a tweet saying Herman would officially interview at SC next week. Is the expectation he's the guy?

Are there other major contenders? Is the OP here still accurate? It's tough to weed thru the ulsu diarrhea around here to get any info so sorry if it was posted in this long thread

It will depend on his draft grade, but those coaches who held him out won't be here anymore, so he may want to stick around.

There are a lot of names being floated around, certain people prefer certain coaches.Right now there is a lot of speculation that Herman is the #1 choice, but only Ray Tanner, our Consultants, and the Selection Committee know that.

The guys in the lead group are:
Tom Herman
Kirby Smart
Justin Fuente

Then a lot of names have been floated
Larry Fedora
Butch Davis
Mark Dantonio
Mike Gundy
Ray Biacchia
Matt Campbell
Shane Beamer

From SportsTalkSC today:

quote:

(UPDATE 11/24) We are told today a tentative agreement on an offer in principle between USC and Tom Herman has been reached. The deal is contingent on Herman and his wife liking what they see when they visit USC and Herman and Ray Tanner being comfortable with one another. That visit could take place as early as Sunday or the first part of next week depending on the outcome of Houston’s game Friday with Navy. A Houston loss would expedite the process. All information at this time points toward Herman. All other names are simply fallback prospects should things not work out with Herman.

You guys deserve a coach with a NC pedigree. Can I get you guys into a Les Miles?

I wondered if the Muschamp thing would come up at some point somewhere. Texas fans melted when they lost him to Florida. I think someone should give him a shot.

His defenses were fine at Florida. If he could hire a good OC and control his temper on the sidelines, he would probably be fine.

I get it. I just don't think he should have to rehab as head coach at a MAC school or something. USCe seems like the right level. Perhaps a bit lower, like a mediocre ACC squad.
