Saw on the staff page on ND 247

Both Rees and Freeman ARE interviewing for the head coaching job. The plan might be to hire Freeman as HC and give Rees a big raise.

The writer doesn’t believe the OSU rumors. Matt Campbell is also in play, but doesn’t seem like that is going anywhere. LSU still remains in play, all of this should be resolved quickly no matter the outcome.

Elston is still weighing his options. Might stay if named DC.

From the way this looks, unlike the OU situation where Riley got all the staff he wanted, these coaches had no clue and were thrust into major life decisions in short order.

Right now, I’m personally leaning towards not getting many of them. If any of them. Which is ok, BK can build a new staff pretty quickly.

I feel like Kelly has been striking out early on his coordinator hires. Notre Dame's S&C coach and their RB coach have both been contacted and both indicated they are staying.

It's the truth. I have faith he'll find someone but it seems like pulling from his old staff is going to be a challenge.

Ummm this deal happened in hours. All of these guys have families and are in a playoff hunt. Pulling ND staff always seemed like an uphill battle at the moment

All we really need is a hotshot OC. Take our time on the rest . DJ will have the defense humming next year.

That staff is still trying to win a Natty too. If they have success, good chance they can get promotions, more money, and don’t have to uproot their families. Not surprising he would have a tough time pulling them.

If ND hires Freeman as their HC.. that’s pretty freaking insane.

That AD is buying time and hiring Freeman as the HC is a task blows my mind, personally.

I’d hire Venables, way way before I’d hire Freeman.

I remember the wailing and gnashing of teeth when none of Saban’s coaches followed him to BR.

How did that work out?

They are professional beat writers man. Get a grip.

This is from the Shea, Delly or Miller of ND.

I think a lot of the players and to a lesser extent coaches go to ND because of the school itself, not just the head coach. So you may see more players and coaches stay loyal to ND.

This would hurt, especially if we keep Quinn.

Quinn and Elston have been attached to Kelly's hip for a LONG time. Elston is really important and by far the better of the 2.

We can get a new OC and DC. We have a RBs coach and DBs coach. We need Elston.

He was hired a day ago and has unlimited money. We’ll be ok

But if it's true Kelly reached out to his RB coach at ND, maybe that lends validity the theory that Faulk's role is going to change?

Especially alumni coaches like Rees.

Another thing mentioned by Notre Dame fans is that Kelly seems to have a lot of turnover in the staff (mostly people getting promotions and poached). This probably means he has few loyalists on staff. He’s been able to keep reloading assistants and coordinators though, so I don’t doubt he’ll be able to pull together a strong staff. It just depends on timeframe with ESD coming up so fast.
