The recently canned New Mexico coach has been named by HC Edsall as the new OC at Maryland. Let's see, in 3 years as New Mexico's HC he:

- Punched out his DC during a meeting and was subsequently suspended for two weeks by the AD, creating an odd situation where the HC was banned from his own office;

- Sexually harrassed his secretary;

- A high school student and supposed recruit was arrested for drunk driving in Locksley's car

- Oh yeah, he compiled a record of 2-26.

You can almost hear carnival music playing in the background when you discuss Maryland football right now. Locksley was OC for 5 years under Zook at Florida and Illinois before heading to New Mexico. He is from the DC area and Edsall is counting on shoring up Maryland's presence in the local area.

Its a tremendous hire. He obviously isn't cut out to be a head coach and he has his baggage but he is hands down the best recruiter for the MD/DC region in the country and MDs staff was a joke recruiting wise.

He will clean up locally and he has shown he can be a pretty good OC in the past.

He was the guy getting all the DC kids to Illinois for Zook.

Edsall will either be proven to be a terrible HC or he will eventually have Maryland playing like the aTm team that made it out of Junction, TX without quitting. Literally over a dozen players have transferred and not due to oversigning.

Does it really matter? Maryland has a bunch of sports programs going under, might as well throw in football along with it. They got rid of a sucessfull coach to bring in mediocre UConn head coach and Crowton? If any program deserves to be smitted it is Maryland football.

with out a doubt, he is a good OC and might be the best recruiter in the DC area. VT,WVU,UVA and Penn State now legitly have to compete with Maryland for players again

You guys keep repeating that players are leaving the program. What part of transition from laid back coach to disciplinarian didn't you guys get?

Edsall is a good coach, IMO. As soon as he's able to set HIS ship correctly, he'll be fine.

I agree. When you want to run a program completely opposite of what the previous coach did, you have to tear it down and rebuild it.

It has nothing to do with "OMG he's running the program into the ground forever!"

he did go to the NFL and have success, which is kind of a big deal

he just lost his shite either at BYU or UO. i think a lot of it was when he tried to add in spread option at UO

He was stripped of his playcalling duties while in Chicago. Kind of a bizarre career move anyways - d1 head coach to NFL coordinator. He could have hung out at tech a few more years and still gotten the byu gig.
