Orlando Sentinel: Why would FSU coach Jimbo Fisher take a lesser job at LSU?

Seriously, does LSU really think they can hire Jimbo Fisher away from FSU?

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the height of arrogance.

And not only that, it's an insult to the status of FSU as an elite football program.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying LSU isn't a good job; I'm just saying it's not a "great" job. I'm just saying the FSU job is better than the LSU job -- especially for Jimbo Fisher.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: Why would he leave a place where he has already won a national title; where he took over for a legend and rebuilt the program in his own image; where his kids are growing up?

The Tigers, who reportedly will make "an aggressive run" at Jimbo after Saturday's Florida-Florida State game, are -- in a word -- delusional. They've won two national titles in the modern era of college football and they somehow believe now they should be playing for it every year. Do they really think they can just fire Les Miles, one of the most successful coaches in school history, and Jimbo is going to come begging them for a job?

Miles compiled a 114–34 record and won one national title and played for another. He was one of only five active coaches to win a national championship (the others are Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Jimbo Fisher and Bob Stoops). He had a higher winning percentage at the school than Nick Saban did when he coached at LSU. He won at least 10 games in seven of his 11 seasons. And, yes, it would have been 8 of 11 if the Tigers' season-opening game hadn't been rained out last year.

Why would Jimbo go to a place like that -- a place where he has to take on Alabama and Auburn and Florida and Georgia and Tennessee and Texas A&M and other schools capable of winning national championships when he can stay at FSU and only take on Clemson and Louisville (occassionally) to compete for the natty?

To think he would just pick up and leave for Baton Rouge is the epitome of SEC snobbery. Why would Jimbo want to go to the SEC when he has built an SEC-type program in the much more hospitable ACC? Not to say that the ACC hasn't improved with the rise of Clemson and now Louisville, but FSU has the resources and recruiting base to be the league's premier team most every year.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: The Florida State job is better than any job in the SEC. That's right, it's even better than Alabama because -- good God! -- who would want to follow Saban, the greatest college football coach of the modern era?

Yes, there will be years like this year when the Seminoles don't win the conference championship and finish with "only" nine or 10 wins, but guess what? FSU isn't going to fire their coach because of it.

Jimbo Fisher is no dummy.

He's not going to go to LS-Unrealistic.

The Tigers will soon find out that Fisher is FS-Unavailable.

I live in Orlando but don't read the Slantinel. But I knew based on your subject that Bianchi wrote the article. Dude has had a serious grievance to LSU for years.

If LSU hires jimbo someone should take out a full page ad calling this guy out in the paper. Would be hilarious.

Begging us for a job???

We are rumored to be offering compensation totalling ~$7.5 million.

I wouldn't call that begging.
