Canada was the ONLY oc up the Broyles award. You sound like you would bash ANYONE they were going to hire.

Just for some context, Rhett Lashlee was a Broyles award finalist a couple years ago. Would you want him as your OC?

Canada had an outstanding year this year at Pitt. Let's hope that is the coach we are getting and not the coach that was fired from NC State.

I do think his offense is one of the better fits for LSU. While Helfrich and Briles are impressive, I don't know that LSU was ready to move from one extreme to the other. I'm excited to see what he can do with our talent.

The guy has been an OC for 13 years. Maybe 10 at P5 schools. Anyone that hasn't heard of him has no business opining on how good of a hire it is.

In fact, this board seemed to only bring up coaches that have been in the news recently for something negative (sark, kiff, helfrich, bridles)

This is about as good a hire as you could make, despite what our dumb shite fans think.

Kiffin, Riley, Enos, Helfrich, Sark, Both Briles (despite their baggage). I think those are some names that are clearly a tier above Canada despite their baggage. I think Canada is somewhere in the next tier with Gilbert, mazzone, Frost, etc.

You have Canada listed with a bunch of OC's that were so good that they are now head coaches. That in and of itself kind of works against your "next teir" argument.

And the key word you didn't consider was "available" candidates.

Kiffen was never coming to LSU; wanted a HC job.
Riley is not leaving OU, unless it's for a HC job.
Sark is an alcoholic; he was never going to be offered the OC job.
Art Briles is in a legal battle involving the cover-up of rape; Never, and I mean never, was this going to happen.
Frost is a head coach.
Helfrich was and his play calling abilties are a huge question mark.

Canada easily ranks with the likes Enos, Gilber, Briles Jr., and the rest. I'd put him at the top, IMO.

So O had two buddies lined up as potential OCs and when that didn't pan out he had to research and find a new candidate

Yeah that's right. Those were the only two options he had in mind and he had absolutely no backup plan beyond them.

STFU.

Bull shite. I know by reading this board that the football program is in a shambles and O nor Alleva are capable of hiring the right guy and we're all doomed. Doomed I tell you.

That doesn't mean he won't be good. Just that O has said a lot of diff shite and is why fans have been uneasy.

There is no "best". It's ALWAYS debatable.

So if a coach says, "we're going to hire the best coaches and recruit the best players", then literally every coach and player must be the unquestionable best?

Good luck with that. You sound fun.

This is alway board created. Too many here want to be updated and simply refuse to let the people in charge do their jobs on the timeline it needs to be done.

But those critical of O were right all along. We said he should make a hire ASAP. People that blindly follow O said we should wait.

He realized his mistake and did the right thing, which he should be commended for. But when are the O supporters going to admit that O's critics were right?

No, it was legit. There were more than 1 recruit who mentioned this. It was having a negative impact.

You aren't hiring coaches in a vacuum. The baggage is part of it.

Would have been a little silly to rush this because of what a couple recruits said, now that we have closure.

Plus, recruits say all kinds of dumb shite. You think Isaiah Buggs didn't commit here because we didn't have an OC lined up? Lol

He said he was going to bring in the best coordinators in the country. I think most agree Aranda is in the top 3. Canada, not so much. He's good, but he's not elite.

Your number of down votes would indicate you are in the minority with that belief.

Don't follow football much, do you? Scroll back and see why Canada is elite. No debate by the knowledgeable.

Agreed. Only other name that comes to mind is Venables, and I'm not sure he's necessarily better or even tied with Aranda.

Being nominated for doing a great job one season makes him elite? So all the other years he was average mean nothing? He did a nice job with Pitt one year but he is certainly not an elite offensive mind in CFB. To suggest Canada is elite is really laughable. There are guys who have fathered complete trees of other successful offensive coaches who themselves have been unstopable year after year at multiple schools. Canada has been both passed over and fired by the two coaches who know him best. Sorry that is not elite! But you'll soon see...
