why?

They'd have to COMPLETELY change up their identity as they've been a run heavy pro-style team.

And? They'd get a very good coach who has ties to the area and his hire would piss off their biggest rival. He already dominated that crappy conference once, he can do it again.

Because he's shown that he can kill it in the Big Least.

Go for the best coach, not the one that fits your personnel.

I don't know but you have to love Pitt AD Steve Pederson. First, as AD at Nebraska, he fires the HC after a 9-3 season and replaces him with Bill Callahan who comes close to destroying Nebraska football in a few short years. Now, he fires Wannstedt 7 months after signing him to a new contract extension and after Pitt wins a share of the Big East for the first time in over 6 years. Then, he hires Mike Haywood of whom he says the following:

quote:

Pittsburgh athletic director Steve Pederson praised Haywood's character when he was hired last month, calling his values "in line with the values of this great university."

"His history at outstanding programs with outstanding coaches gave him a rare combination of experiences and background," Pederson said at the time. "Most importantly, Michael is a man of character and integrity and will be an inspirational leader for our football team."

This AD is toxic to college football programs.

fair point but I think you have to consider how long the transition period will take.

The results were fine on offense it's their D that sucked arse. Put Michigan's O in the Big East and that's a BCS team. Also it's not like Rich Rod can only run his offense one way, it was completely different at Tulane.

they never finished higher than being tied for 7th in the conference.

this is their 1st year making a bowl.

His record at Mich. has been 6-18 in conference play.

Because the defense sucks not the offense. If you don't think he can win at Pitt in the freaking Big East which is sending UCONN to a BCS bowl(a team Mich. beat by 20) you're stupid.

agreed but the offense hasn't truly been good until this year.

and if i'm an AD it bothers me he can't get a good D.

I was going to wonder what about Gus Malzhan or even Ralph F., formerly at Maryland, but then I saw the note about Pitt's Athletic Director. His track record is not good when it comes to hiring head football coaches.

I wonder if Pitt has considered one Gary Crowton. He'd be a good representative. He won't throw punches. He don't even teach QBs to throw correctly. Hell, he won't even let running backs punch it in when need be.
