I can see the argument for Penn State over Miami. Miami's in Miami, so that's huge. But they don't really have a fan base. Florida and Florida State should usually have first pick down there.

As for Penn State, they have huge fan loyalty. You can sell playing in State College. I've been there for a home game, and it's not SEC, but it's very cool. You have control over a huge recruiting footprint. No, it's not Florida, but it's significant. The only negative is the new B1G East has Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State. When they get things right, that's gonna be tough.

Hate to damper the internets on Bill O'Brien to the Texans, but PSU has just picked up a verbal commitment from VA OT Chasz Wright.
Additionally, verbal recruit Thomas Holley is saying:
quote:

“I just off the phone with him," Holley told 247Sports Luke Stampini. "He said he isn’t going. It’s not true."

That's probably what Tubbs told those Texas Tech recruits before he got up to go to the bathroom.

James Franklin is a Penn native and his name's being mentioned. I know a lot of VU guys are worried that if he has a legitimate offer on the table, he bolts.

I have seen people on a PSU board wanting Franklin. Obviously he isn't going to comment on wanting the job, but I think I'd like to see it happen.

I'll take all the ESPN and CBS reports over what BOB told a recruit though.

As long as Penn State doesn't put Matt Millen in charge of the search, they should get someone good.

Call me a delusional Penn Stater, but I don't exactly trust ESPN...

I don't know about ESPN, etc etc, but I think you're delusional if you think O'Brien will be your coach next year.

Possibly. Either way, I think the school, the football program, and the fan base will survive. I hope it is with BO'B on the sidelines though.

Oh for sure you will. I've said all night that he has your program 100x farther along than anybody thought you'd be right now. He's done a hell of a job there, that's why he's getting so much attention. He's guided you through the most difficult part, if you can make a quality hire to replace him you'll be in great shape

I don't know what is sadder - that those kids are that naive to think it isn't true that he's waist deep in negotiations with the Texans, or the possibility of Dan Mullen being their coach if O'Brien does leave. It's at least 60% that he's gone and Mullen will beg for that job through back channels.
