@ProFootballTalk: Source: Dirk Koetter is telling assistant coaches in Tampa he has the head coaching job.

Unless It's not

@ProFootballTalk: Another source contends Koetter is lining up staff members IF he gets the job. So there's that.

Koetter sucked at Arizona State. What makes them think he'll do well in Tampa Bay?

When's the last time that a coach has failed and been fired from his last college job and ended up successful in the NFL? Maybe there's some examples, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

There has to be a shortage of coaches.

It's a common thing, coaches usually have a mock staff ready for the interview process.

It's gonna be him this week, just a matter of time...

I'll have to do more digging but all I can come up with is Bill Parcells, and he really doesn't fit at all. Had a 3-8 record in one year at Army before becoming a DC in the NFL

Ooh I found one.

Marv Levy (Bills and Chiefs)
4 AFC Championships
6 Divisional Titles
7 Playoff Appearances
143-112 overall record

At college (Cal):
1958- New Mexico 7-3
1959- New Mexico 7-3
1960- Cal 2-7-1
1961- Cal 1-8-1
1962- Cal 1-9
1963- Cal 4-5-1
1964- William & Mary 4-6
1965- William & Mary 6-4
1966- William & Mary 5-4-1
1967- William & Mary 5-4-1 (Conf. Champs)
1968- William and Mary 3-7

Overall College record: 45-60-5
Fired from California and probably William and Mary

Bruce Arians. Not only was he fired as a college head coach at Temple, he was also fired as a college offensive coordinator at Alabama.
