Mike Riley fired his longtime DC and close buddy, Mark Banker. Fans are clamoring for Riley to make a splash hire, from everyone from Rob Ryan to Jim Haslett being name-dropped. One popular suggestion was Dave Aranda. I was quick to point out that Aranda's not going anywhere

Throwing this out there, what about the possibility of Les Miles as D.C.? Heck, his son is already here. Thoughts?

The defense at LSU was always good I'd take it in a heartbeat

I would kill for Les Miles to be the DC.... but I am afraid that is as pipe dream as having all our targets commit during the Army All American game lol. (fingers crossed!)

nevermind... realized after a reminder that he is an offensive guy

quote:

Jesus people. Les Miles is an offensive Line coach. Not a D.C. His great defenses at LSU were because of great DCs that went other places. Don't know how many people have said this so far. Just because his kid is committed does not mean he's a good option for defensive coordinator

If there is 2 things I learned from every page on this thread is that there are a lot of people that want Les Miles and that Les Miles is an offensive coach. Lmao

Had some good laughs.

in their defense, Miles does indeed know how to stop an offense more than anyone

NB is a dead program now and I don't think they'll ever have big names going there again. There are just some parts of the country that no one cares about. NB is one of them, and I think it's really the cause for their decline. Current coaching staff has done well all things considered.

Only way they'll ever land 4 and 5-star guys is if they hire an established big name coach who can lure those types to Lincoln. Guys like Pelini and Riley aren't going to do that. Actually I think Miles would do well as a HC there. Much easier path to the playoff through that side of the B1G than in the SEC, that's for sure. Hard to believe a team that was such a dynasty in the 90s hasn't even won a conference championship yet this century.

Not a bad suggestion, no one could shut down offensive talent like Coach Miles.

Will Nebraska ever duplicate the mid 90s, not a chance in hell. I doubt that any college team will have that dominate of a run again. From 1993-1997, they only lost 3 games.
Went 37-0 in conference play, over that stretch. Destroying the best SEC teams in bowl games.

They will probably lead their division in Big 10 CG appearances. Northwestern, Iowa, Illinois, Purdue, Minnesota isn't really murder's row. Wisconsin and the Cornhuskers should be the leaders (pun intended) in the West.

I wonder what the defensive version of the toss dive looks like...
