The fact that people really think Saban even thinks about LSU other than for game prep is ridiculous.

There is a segment of the LSU fanbase who will never get over Saban leaving. They have to believe that he still holds a soft spot in his heart for LSU.

This is easily solved by having multiple back up plans just in case.
Unfortunately, LSU probably does not. I think we end up with either Major Applewhite or Steve Ensminger with an outside chance at Kiffin if Houston turns him down.

I honestly don't think Houston will hire Kiffin. They know that he will use Houston as a stepping stone to a P5 gig. Houston is looking for a long term replacement. I think. Lol tell me if I'm wrong.

I would also be very happy with Applewhite. He's coming off a couple of years learning from Herman and I think he would recruit well here. He has huge ties to Texas and he's originally from Baton Rouge. I think he would be great.
