Matt Campbell could be the Jay Johnson of this search

Interview from July with ESPN, including a question about getting looks from other programs and the NFL. Gave me Jay Johnson vibes. Has the experience, process oriented, early 40’s, loves to coach.
Biggest question would be if he could be pulled from Iowa State for a reasonable salary. He’s a northern or midwest guy and has never done anything outside of that area.

It’s very relevant given the AD that just conducted a search for Johnson is conducting this search. If there are certain criteria he looks for in a coach, Campbell has some of them.

If Campbell is the hire, people should be very, very, very happy. He has done a great job getting Iowa St out of the basement of college football, and he will do quite well when he gets a shot at a bigger program with more support.

He was crying yesterday before the game introducing the seniors and to me it felt like he is sending these seniors out a good way and knows his time at Iowa State has come to an end. I’ve never seen a coach get that emotional on senior day!

Matt Cambell has like 1/3 of all 7+ win seasons in the last 100 years of Iowa State football, and he's only been there 6 years.
What he's done at Iowa State is unreal.
